______TODAY’S PROGRAM: Pembroke Rotary Club Chronicle Jennifer Hind - Newspapers in Education VOLUME 28 NUMBER 03 JULY 17, 2008 Andrew Doughty introduced our speaker, his relative, in ______the person of Jennifer Hind, Education Services Co- July 17, 2008: ordinator for The Royal Gazette. Jennifer is also a teacher, an author, and a photographer. On Duty: Sasha Castle & Jan Card Newspapers in Education has been in Bermuda for 10 Attendance: 21 of 40 members (52.5%) years and Jennifer has been involved for 8 of those years. Honorary Members: none The program is funded 100% by The Royal Gazette and Visiting Rotarians: Phillip Buishard of St. Georges involves distributing some 7,000 to 8,000 newspapers Guests: none each week to various schools. In addition to the Exchange Student: none newspapers, Jennifer prepares and circulates to teachers, Birthdays: Janet Talaram July 25th by e-mail each Thursday, a 10-Question Work Sheet on Anniversaries: Alan & Ann Marie Pailing July 22nd the news of the day for them to use as teaching aids as they wish. She also provides general Work Sheets on Raffle: was won by Phil Every, who then presented his prize to our speaker. basic subjects such as Math, Social Studies, Business Studies and other topics based on the current Curriculum. ______ANNOUNCEMENTS: The program also involves the preparation of a number of 16 page Supplements through out the year including a  Condolences: President Bob informed the club of the passing of Geoffrey Gibbons, son of our Charter Young Observer Project with articles written by students for students. Each June the paper prints Graduate President Leonard Gibbons. Our condolences go out to the family. Pages with photos from each school – another free service of the paper! Teachers can arrange to bring groups of students to tour The Royal Gazette premises on a regular basis to learn more about journalism.  Myanmar Relief: District has notified us that our donation for shelter boxes has been doubled by a District matching Grant. This results in 80 people benefitting from our donation! This is truly a wonderful program and Jan Card thanked Jennifer on behalf of the club for bringing news of it to our attention.  Speakers List: Barbara Edwards’ list went around again this week – our immediate need is for Speakers for ______August; please give Barbara a call!
