El Ivcc En Barbados

THE VICC IN BARBADOS

Since 1976 Barbados had shown interest in implementing mechanisms of cooperation on educational matters, such as, a Cultural Agreement, and also in creating a Venezuelan- Barbadian Cultural Center, as a common project with its site in Barbados. This Center would be devoted to the teaching of Spanish and English languages, and to encourage a closer understanding between both cultures.

Later, on April 05, 1977, the “Cultural Exchange Agreement between Venezuela and Barbados” was signed.

Finally, on July 24, 1977 the “Bolívar and Bello Institute” which was founded in Barbados, was dedicated not only to the teaching of Spanish, but also to the teaching of Venezuelan folk songs and musical instruments, such as, cuatro and harp; the promotion of art exhibitions; the organization of conferences, Venezuelan film festivals, sports activities, etc.

Since it was created, the Venezuelan Institute for Culture and Cooperation in Barbados has been an essential Institution for the diffusion of the socio-cultural image of Venezuela in the region.
