REGION OF TEXAS BROCHURE Journey Through a Region of Texas Major Grade
Texas is geographically divided into four main regions. You will create a travel brochure about one of these four regions. Along the way you will discover and learn some things about the cities, wildlife, vegetation, climate, attractions, important places, culture, economy, and industry of your assigned region.
1. Make a visual representation or map of your region (10 points): Make a visual representation or map (shape of region, borders, rivers, cities, etc.) of what your region looks like. This will be the title and cover of your brochure. Be sure to include an outline of Texas and highlight where your region is located within Texas. ll
2. Description of your region (70 points): On the inside and back cover of your brochure include the following information about your region. Include illustrations and color for each. LAND/LANDFORMS- Describe what the land looks like and any major landforms in the region WILDLIFE AND VEGETATION- two or three types of wildlife and two or three types of vegetation that are common to the region WEATHER- Describe typical climate throughout the seasons for the region, also note any extreme weather that the region is prone to have THREE MAJOR CITIES- List three major cities in the region along with a short 2 to 3 sentence description of each city ATTRACTIONS AND IMPORTANT PLACES- Three attractions and/or important places in the region. These could be theme parks, museums, stadiums, colleges/ universities etc. These places can be within the major cities you chose above. Be sure to include a short description of each place. CULTURE- Discover three items of culture of the region. These could be foods, holidays observed, languages, clothing, etc. Be sure to include a short description of each cultural item. ECONOMY AND INDUSTRY- Discover three products and/or services this region is known to produce or provide. Give a short description of each product or service.
3. Appearance, neatness, decoration (10 points): Again, include color and illustrations to make your Region Brochure appear neat and appealing. It is preferred that illustrations are hand drawn, however you may download and use digital images as long as they are used and placed neatly and included in the bibliography.
4. Citations/Bibliography (10 points): A bibliography of all the sources you used must be included somewhere on the back of your brochure, or stapled to the brochure.
Format and supplies: You may use your own poster board, your own construction paper or the classroom construction paper for this project. You may handwrite or type out your work. Sources: While working on the project in class, you may use the textbook, notebook, and other print sources that are available in the classroom. You may also BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE to help you find information online. You may also BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE to type out and save information. While working on the project at home, use the online textbook and the internet. Be sure to cite where you get your information from in the bibliography.
