Weekly Home Fun Sheet Week of April 19th 2017 – April 21st 2017 Ms. Kalb 2-311 Dear Parents: Your child has a laminated card in his/her math toolkit with usernames and passwords for a variety of educational websites. Please encourage your child to get extra practice whenever possible. Please make sure you sign their reading logs in their blue reading folder every night. Wednesday Reading: 50 minutes reading time (20 minutes of Fiction Reading and 30 minutes of Non- 4/19/17 Fiction reading.) Fill in your reading log. As you read tonight, choose a section of your nonfiction book and ask yourself these questions to help you keep track of what you are reading. What is the title of that section? What is the main idea of that section? Use details from the text to support the main idea.

Writing: Unit 4 Make Your Case! Opinion Writing This week we are finishing our opinion writing unit and starting our lab report and science writing unit. Summarize everything you learned about opinion writing in a paragraph in your homefun notebook. Tell someone in your home about your accomplishments this unit!

Math:Module 8: Time, Shapes, and Fractions as Equal Parts of Shapes Short Response #1.

Social Studies: New York City Over Time. Read the passage “Telephones Now and Then” by Rachelle Kreisman and answer questions 1- 5. Thursday Reading: 50 minutes reading time (20 minutes of Fiction Reading and 30 minutes of Non- 4/20/17 Fiction reading.) Fill in your reading log. As you read your informational book tonight, choose another section of the book, and ask yourself these questions to help you keep track of what you are reading. What is the subheading of that section? What is the main idea of that section? Use details from the text to support the main idea of that section.

Writing: Unit 5 Lab Reports and Science Writing This week we are beginning a new unit on writing lab reports and non-fiction books on science topics. Make a list of experiments that we have done so far in science class. Then pick one and write down the materials we used, and the steps that we followed. What was the conclusion? Write your ideas in your homefun notebook.

Share your idea with someone from home.

Shapes and their Attributes 1. Jasmine uses toothpicks to make shapes. Each toothpick is 4cm long. Jasmine made two squares. What is the total length of her squares? Show all your work and use mathematical thinking.

2. Marc is building a tower out of toy blocks. Each block is 5 inches tall. Marc used 7 blocks for his tower. How tall is his tower? Show all your work and use mathematical thinking.

3. Linda has some shapes. When she counts all of the sides so gets a total of eight. Draw what shapes she may have. Show all your work and use mathematical thinking.
