At EWMS, we are proud to have a large collection of playaways in our library, Playaways are audiobooks in an MP3 format. That means that the entire book is on the MP3 player! Playaways are small, portable, and easy to use. Students are able to adjust the reader's speed, and there is a bookmark feature that will keep your place when you turn off the playaway.

Because of the cost of playaways, we are requiring students to have parent permission to checkout playaways. By signing below, you are giving your child permission to check out a playaway. This slip will stay on file in the library and will be effective as long as your child is a student at EWMS. If you decide you no longer want your child to check out playaways, please contact Mrs. Collazo at [email protected] or 817-237-9631.

By signing below, I am giving my child permission to borrow a playaway from the Ed Willkie Middle School Library. I understand that if the player is lost or damaged, I will be responsible for the replacement cost, which is $40.00. I also understand that a standard pair of headphones, such a pair from a walkman or i-pod, is needed to be able to use the playaways. (Please indicate below if you do not have a pair of headphones at home. A set will be provided for you.)

This year, I am trying something new in the EWMS Library. We currently have about 40 movies in the Willkie Library for students to checkout. I chose to have movies this year because there are many wonderful older movies out there that students may never get the opportunity to see. Others are more current movies based on children's and young adult literature. Most are DVD format. Some examples: --The Chronicles of Narnia --Coraline --Romeo and Juliet (1968) --Lord of the Rings trilogy --National Velvet --Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds --Casablanca --many more! In order to check out these and other movies, your Willkie student will need written permission. Please indicate below if your child may checkout PG and G-rated movies only, or if all the movies are okay to checkout. We do not circulate Rated R movies. Many films produced before 1968 are Not Rated (NR). Students will need additional permission for both NR and PG-13 films.

This permission form will stay on file for your child as long as he/she is a student at EWMS. If you decide you no longer want your child to check out movies, please email Mrs. Collazo at [email protected] or call 817- 237-9631.
