***** FANCY SOMETHING DIFFERENT?????? *****

***** CALLING ALL STAFF NURSES!!! *****

Have you ever wanted the best of both worlds? Well now you can by working in both the Hyperbaric Unit and Intensive Therapy Unit!

The Hyperbaric Unit deals with patients suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning, decompression illness and radiation tissue damage – which means that we are always busy coping with new challenges. No two days are the same as you can be working within ITU one day and the next day you can be in the hyperbaric chamber nursing patients at depths of up to 30 metres!

The opportunity has arisen to seek applicants for this exciting and challenging Band 5 Staff Nurse post. You will be based within the extremely busy and diverse environment of the General Intensive Therapy Unit at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and will be caring for patients on life support systems and rotate up to the Hyperbaric Medicine Unit to care for patients in the hyperbaric chamber.

We are looking for a registered nurse with 2 years post registration ward based experience. Alternatively, you will be on the Staff Nurse Development Programme and will be seeking a second year placement within ITU nursing. You should have good communication, team working and interpersonal skills and should also be able to work under pressure, learn quickly and contribute positively. You should have a genuine interest in hyperbaric medicine. Evidence of continued professional development would be an advantage.

A considerable amount of training and investment will be given to you and as a condition of your appointment you will study a RGU accredited two year programme of education in ITU nursing in which you are required to ‘pass’. You will also undertake a detailed programme of training which will equip you as a competent member of the hyperbaric nursing team.

If you would like to know more about the hyperbaric team or the work within hyperbaric/ITU, then please phone us for an informal chat on extension 53264/53865. As this is a combined post, an informal visit of the hyperbaric chamber is recommended if you have never seen it and we can even arrange a guided tour of ITU!!

We look forward to meeting you soon and welcoming you to the hyperbaric team.

Informal enquiries to Charge Nurse Kenny Crosbie/Hyperbaric team, Hyperbaric Medicine Unit, Tel (01224) (5)53264/(5)53865 or bleep 3413 Closing Date Wednesday 7 November 2007
