I am keen to become a member on the executive of the New Zealand Sterile Sciences Association and I would like to tell you a bit about myself so that you can consider if I am worthy of your vote.
I am the Team Co-ordinator of the CSSD of the Wairarapa DHB in Masterton. We are currently a team of seven and we are expanding in our scope of practice and knowledge base and I love being part of a team that is growing in confidence and ability. I am incredibly happy in this position and feel that all of the things that I have done in my working life have culminated in giving me many of skills to undertake this job. The other skills I am learning and love being challenged to do things well. At this point I am enjoying studying and working through the Level 5 Open Polytechnic course in sterilizing technology.
My working life has either been in aviation or some form of medicine. I have worked as an Assistant Practice Manager at Managere Health Centre, Computer Operator / Data Input at MedLab, Sterile Services Technician at both Wairau (NMDHB) and Tauranga (BOPDHB) Hospitals. My aviation life consists of being a Purchasing Officer at Motor Holdings Aviation (Ardmore) and Safe Air (Blenheim). At Safe Air I then became a Creditors Analyst and worked in accounts for a number of years.
My personal life consists of many voluntary posts as I have served on many committees and strongly believe that you need to contribute, give back and serve as well as taking. My experience in committees started when I gained my NZ Private Pilots License at 17 and served as the Club Captain for Waitemata Aero Club, after having children I then became Treasurer for Play Centre until the children were school age. My daughter was obsessed with horses which started my interest in and I learned to ride at the age of 40! I was the Treasurer for many years for Renwick Pony Club and the Marlborough combined Pony Clubs. For my own interest I was Treasurer again for the Marlborough Endurance and Trail Riding Club and had a year as being President. At Safe Air we had a very large Social Club and I was the Treasurer for 5 years – yet again!
I currently live in Featherston, South Wairarapa and believe that this province is the biggest little secret that New Zealand has to offer and love being here. I am still very involved with horses and have trained as an Equine Acupuncturist and treat a few horses every now and then. Also I have goals to compete in Endurance again and finish an 80Km ride to be qualified to ride open. I would very much like to be elected to serve you on the committee of the NZ Sterile Sciences Association and am very open to any questions you may have. If you would like to contact me please phone 027 443 3926.
