JOB TITLE Part time caretaker GRADE KR3 pro rata 17.5 hours per week / 52 weeks Split shift 6:30 am to 8:00 am and 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm PAY £15.253.00 TO £16,967.00 (pro rata to 17.5 hours per week) DATE February 2018 LINE MANAGER Bursar

Summary of Job: Ensure the security of the establishment and provide a cleaning and general maintenance service.

Outline of Main Duties: 1. Undertake general repairs and maintenance around the establishment, inside and out, including plastering, decorating, repairs and woodwork to ensure the site is a safe environment for students, teachers and visitors. 2. Maintain the security of the premises by opening and closing premises and signing in visitors when necessary. Inform of any defects in doors, latches and fences to maintain security around site. Act as the main key holder for out of hours contact.

3. Assist the cleaners, and cover for any absences, in general cleaning of the premises i.e. buffing wooden floors, cleaning toilets, to ensure a tidy appearance is maintained 4. Walk the school perimeter to check for dangerous items 5. Ensure outside areas are kept free from litter, sweeping leaves, emptying bins, washing down areas etc to maintain a clean and tidy environment. 6. Proactively identify and report any defects to the Bursar and Headteacher to ensure health and safety procedures are followed and to enable repairs to be carried out. Report serious hazards to line manager immediately.

7. Operate / use domestic and industrial cleaning equipment and materials, following appropriate training.

8. Assist in taking meter reading from appropriate sites around the establishment to ensure invoices received are correct and budget monitoring is maintained 9. Facilitate school events and external lettings and carry out associated tasks. 10. Assist the cleaner in charge to carry out routine maintenance checks under the direction of the Bursar. E.g. Fire testing, Legionella and keep all documentation and records updated. Keep Asbestos register up to date. 11. Assist in portering services for deliveries as and when required. 12. Comply with Health & Safety, Fire Regulations and other County policies and attend training courses as required.

1 13. Be professional, friendly and respectful towards all colleagues and address any concerns through the proper channels.

14. To actively engage in your performance review process and continue personal development as agreed at performance review meetings.

15. Any other duties as reasonably requested by your Line Manager or Headteacher within your remit. Staff & Others Supervised by the Job Holder: Line Management remains with the Bursar.

CRITERIA Allocated Score Skills Required: A skill describes what you need to know and be able to do in order to perform the job at a fully competent level. Skills include every kind of knowledge and experience required. Full descriptions for each level are set out in the Skills Dictionary. The skill levels build on each other so that if level 3 is required for the job, levels 1 and 2 will also be needed Not EXPERIENCE Previous experience or either working within a applicable school or within the construction or maintenance industries would be desirable.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES Use of a range of basic cleaning equipment, etc Able to communicate factual information politely and courteously Has everyday spoken skills e.g. face-to-face conversations Able to listen, observe and report information to supervisor Ability to work flexibly, to meet the needs of the school and adjust to daily changes in priorities. Ability to recognize and follow protocols and deal with emergency situations Ability to maintain basic written records reporting any defects promptly to the Bursar. Ability to be proactive in identifying potential problems and hazards around the site that need maintenance attention. Evidence of relevant training eg asbestos awarenenss, water hygiene, health and safety would be desirable or a willingness to train.

KNOWLEDGE Understands and able to apply Health and Safety procedures relevant to the job such as: - manual handling; - safe use of machinery and/or equipment; - COSHH ; - First Aid and Hygiene Practice; - lone working procedures and responsibilities - Detailed knowledge of the school site and its security arrangements and emergency call out routines.

Able to recognise and to deal with emergency situations
