Seton Hall University Student Senate Meeting Agenda 10/19/15

I. Call to order II. Invocation III. Roll Call IV. Gallery V. Approval of Minutes  Wilson, Puleo (24-0) VI. Approval of Agenda  Sharma, Kraft (24-0) VII. Public Forum VIII. Advisor’s Report  Advisor Bach recently sent out the applications for the National Conference on Student Leadership. She’s already received five responses! Bach hopes to bring a diverse group to the conference, and therefore would like the Senate to encourage people to apply. Treasurer Regalado has volunteered to serve on the selection committee alongside administrators and another student leader. IX. President’s Report  President Sebba opened her report by reminiscing about her first two years in SGA. She recalled many early mornings spent manning tables at Open House, encouraging prospective students to consider joining Student Government. Sebba urged the senate to keep the selfless drive to serve alive. SGA needs more people to volunteer for events! She stressed that she wouldn’t ask the body to volunteer for anything that she wouldn’t do herself. However, as too few people volunteered for last Sunday’s Open House, Sebba made the decision to withdraw the organization’s participation from the event until further notice. She thanked Chairwoman De la Cruz for keeping her in the loop, Chairman Howard for working so tirelessly over the weekend on the finance bylaws, Secretary Aguilera for cleaning the office, and Senator Shah for the quick matter in which he volunteers. She encouraged the rest of the senate to take a moment of self-reflection to consider their involvement. Sebba ended her statement by encouraging the body to step up, do their part, and get involved!  Sebba then yielded to Vice President Page, who informed the senate that she’d be working on reapportioning the senate seats in light of the new School of Communication. She plans to have the reapportionment done by the next election season, and requested that senators reach out to her with ideas as she begins to assemble a task force. X. Treasurer’s Report  Treasurer Regalado yielded her time to Secretary Aguilera, who shared that he has just printed fliers for SOAC. The process has already started, so Aguilera encouraged those interested in starting a club to fill out the application by October 30th. He revealed the senators he selected to sit on the SOAC board- Senator Shah and Puleo for the fall process, and Senator Weinman for the spring! Aguilera also needs students that are not affiliated with SGA to participate, so he requested that the senate send him recommendations for interested participants as soon as possible. XI. Speaker’s Report  No report XII. Committee Report  Student Life i. Chairwoman De La Cruz recently sent Paul Fisher an email regarding what improvements could be made to the Shufly app. She will be meeting with Michael Garcia this Wednesday to discuss food, vending machines, and the possibility of implementing restaurant buzzers for those waiting for their order in the Cove. De La Cruz is excited for the upcoming Spirit Week and shared that the theme days might be prefaced by events that incite excitement and bestow priority points.  Academic Affairs i. Chairwoman Patel recently met with the administrator that handles online classes to discuss starting a club for online students. She has been demoing Texts.com, a website used by schools such as Brown and Northeastern that provides a platform for students to buy and sell textbooks. Patel also began planning a “Meet your Dean” initiative. Last week’s Academic Affairs meeting was replaced by a workshop for new members.  Finance i. Chairman Howard shared the results of the most recent Finance Committee meeting. The committee granted $300 for the National Society of Collegiate Scholars’ Induction Ceremony, $650 to the Students for Justice in Palestine for their Understanding Syria event, and $270 for MLKSA’s H.O.M.E.S event. They also allocated $50 from the GDS Philanthropic Fund to Delta Phi Epsilon for their ‘Pie a Deepher’ event and $100 to Zeta Phi Beta for their ‘Fit and Finer’ event. Howard plans to share his proposed edits for the finance bylaws at the next meeting.  Public Relations i. Chairwoman Wilson thanked the senate for their avid promotion of the recent flag football game. She stressed that this dedication should be focused towards all SGA initiatives. Wilson urged the body to share all SGA events on at least one social media platform and to send her pictures of what they’re doing for SGA. She then introduced the latest PR initiative- ‘A Day in the Life of a Senator’. Trick or Treat Town Hall will be held next Thursday from 4-6 PM, and must be staffed by at least one member of each constituency at all times. She then encouraged the senate to sign up for more events.  Village Relations i. Chairman Puleo thanked those who attended the South Orange food truck festival and shared that he was working with the village to make the popular event a more common occurrence. XIII. Old Business XIV. New Business XV. Senatorial Courtesy  Simon: Yaemily and I are working on an initiative for Academic Affairs regarding post-graduate opportunities. We’ve created a four-question survey- please fill it out and share on social media!  Weinman: Let the senate be reminded that SGA meetings do have a dress code. Male members, please ensure that you show up in a collared shirt. Girls, let’s make sure that we wear proper apparel. Additionally, adhocs are affiliated with the senate and therefore do not need to stand up as members of the gallery each meeting. Please sign up for Open Houses!  Puleo: Open Houses are really important- show up early with a smile!  Wilson: I will leave the November Open House on the signup sheet- I’m sure if enough people sign up, President Sebba will let us participate again!  Sebba: Open Houses are crucial and require senators to volunteer to table!  Bach: I have two recommendations for Student Life- you should consider looking into Dunkin Donuts opening early on Open House days and should work with seniors to procure a commencement speaker if they’re interested!  Howard: I drafted amendments to the finance policy and will present them to the floor next Monday.  Boyer: Perhaps we should add a column on the GoogleDoc to indicate that we have viewed the event but are unavailable to volunteer at that time. XVI. Announcements  Aguilera: AHA raised over $1,100 from their recent events and have raised a total of $10,500 so far. We have a walk event planned so reach out to me if you’re interested in participating! We should also revive the ‘Meet the Senators’ Instagram campaign. Please send a photo and a short bio to Chelsea!  Wilson: There is a “Meet the Marketing Firms” event planned for this Wednesday from 5-7 PM. This event is a great way to network and explore internships!  Puleo: The Dean’s Undergraduate Student Cabinet is looking for new members. Dean Kaiser will be sending out applications for certain majors soon if anyone is interested in joining!  Weinman: Go check out the SHU Flickr page- SGA senators are very well-represented!  Delacruz: Go to the Fall at the Hall event this Wednesday!
