IMPORTANT INFORMATION

BENCHES IN THE PLAYGROUND (KJO) Please do not move the benches around in the playground nearest Greyfriars as it is creating a health and safety hazard for our Junior School pupils.

S3-S6 PARENT/PUPIL/TEACHER MEETING (KJO) Please note that football must not be played in the playground this afternoon when pupils are waiting for their parents/guardians to arrive.

LOST PROPERTY

LOST PROPERTY (RDRM) A calculator was found in Room 425 last week with no name on it. If you believe it is yours please see Mrs Mayo today. After today it will be taken to the lost property point outside the Janitors lodge.

CLASS DISPLACEMENT

S1 ENGLISH (GKH) Mrs Hay’s class should go to G616 in History/Modern Studies today for the double.

S4 CITIZENSHIP (GKH) Period 4: Both classes should go to Room 129 in English today. Period 5: Both classes should go to Room 129 in English today.

S4 FRENCH (STST) Dr Tonini’s S4 French class – please meet in IT Room 516 period 8 this afternoon.

S5 CITIZENSHIP (GKH) 5A should go to Room 129 period 9 today.

S5 ENGLISH (KHM) Miss Morgan’s class please come to Room 402 in the Computing department for periods 4 and 5 today.

EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

S5-S6 BUSINESS EDUCATION REVISION SESSIONS (JP) Reminder that these sessions are as follows: Today – Higher Business Management Wednesday – Higher Accounting Thursday – Higher Economics. S1-S2 DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT (IP) Want a chance to play with your friends in a dodgeball tournament, potentially winning prizes? Christian Union will be hosting a dodgeball tournament after school on Monday 26th March. If you’re interested in playing, sign up with your friends in teams of 8-10 players at the Art Hut during break any day this week!

GIRLS’ FOOTBALL (MGG) A reminder that there is no training today at Goldenacre. We look forward to seeing everybody again next term.

S4-S6 GEOGRAPHY REVISION SESSIONS (AH) Geography revision sessions will run this week in the department, as follows: Monday – Higher – Room 413 Tuesday – Higher- Room 413. Wednesday – N5 – Room 413. Wednesday – Higher – Room 415.

All sessions will start at 3.20pm and will cover exam technique and any queries you have on specific topics.

LOVEOLIVER FUNDRAISER (PH) A group of S1s (and some select staff) will be rowing the distance from GHS to Newcastle University (about 100 miles!) on Wednesday 28th March. This is to raise awareness and funds for LoveOliver, a local childrens cancer charity. Come to the sports centre during lunchtime to show your support, find out more about the charity (including why we are rowing to Newcastle!) and to buy some merchandise, cakes and sweets. S4-S6 PILATES (ERM) No Pilates on Tuesday 26th March – pupils may leave school at 2.35pm. However, those who signed up to Pilates as their Summer Games Option should remember to bring their kit the first day back after the holiday as Pilates will be ON, Tuesday 17th April.

S1 & S2 PUPILS - START-UP SCIENCE MASTERCLASSES (AMK) Queen Margaret University are offering free Start-up Science Masterclasses throughout May/June. These workshops take place in the university labs and cover a range of topics from food science to physiotherapy – all workshops run on Saturdays between 10.00am- 1.00pm and are FREE. If you are interested, see Miss McKenzie in Room 408 for a registration form or note the email address from the posters displayed in Lauriston.

S4 & S5 WORK EXPERIENCE/ VOLUNTARY SERVICE FORMS (KJO) A polite reminder that these forms are overdue and should be submitted to the School Office by the end of this term. Any pupil experiencing any difficulties with placements should please contact their Guidance teachers asap.

YEAR GROUP INFORMATION

S5-S6 HIGHER MATHEMATICS (KEH) Candidates who have an extra time allowance should report to Room 131 for a 1.00pm start. S6 GS AND ADMIN (ASSN) Sarah Dannfald from CHAS is coming to speak to S6 in the Lecture Theatre period 8 today. Please arrive promptly if you are timetabled to be in GS.

CONGRATULATIONS

FRIENDS OF THE RSA ART AWARD 2018 (AJET) Following the judging of the Friends of the RSA Art Award 2018, which took place on Wednesday 21st March, Orlaith McGirr was awarded First Prize, of £250, in the Junior Category. Congratulations to Orlaith for this fantastic achievement! Award-winning entries will be exhibited in the Royal Scottish Academy Academicians’ Gallery and Highly Commended entries in the Friends’ Corridor, RSA, the Mound, from 24th March until 8th April, 10.00 am - 5.00 pm, Monday to Friday, so please visit the exhibition in the next few weeks or during the Easter holidays.

GEOGRAPHY WORLD WISE QUIZ (AH) Congratulations to the Geography team who were winners of the local heat of the Geography World Wise Quiz last Tuesday. Following a close competition the Heriot’s team took the lead in the final round and now progress to the regional finals to take on schools from across Scotland. Well done to all and a huge thanks to Owen Davies of S6 who helped run training sessions. Certificates are awarded to James Beaton-Hill (S1), Alexander Crich (S2), Medha Rao (S4), and Ciaran Vass (S4).

S6 VOLUNTEER LANGUAGE AMBASSADORS (AEB) Congratulations to the S6 Volunteer Language Ambassadors, who have been teaching classes in French and German at Bruntsfield Primary School every week since October and have now completed the Language Ambassador programme. They have learnt how to plan and deliver modern languages lessons and to manage 30 lively primary children. This is a considerable achievement – well done to Andrew Sturgeon, Molly Rochmankowska, Erian Van Breda, Marcella Valente, Kirsty Lawson, Ria McMillan and Sofia Sangrar.
