Division of Forensic Psychology Annual Conference June 2014
The DFP committee are pleased to be able to offer a number of bursaries to attend the Annual DFP Conference. These are open to all members of the DFP and are to attend the full three day conference.
Bursaries will cover the conference fees; however, accommodation and travel costs will not be covered. Applicants would be required to arrange cover for their accommodation and travel costs.
The DFP intend for the bursaries to offer colleagues support and the opportunity for attending the conference which may contribute to aspects of their professional and/or academic development. It is not the DFP committee’s intention to substitute any responsibility from an employer to support their continuing professional development, but to offer the bursary in cases where the member does not have the financial resources despite trying to secure this.
The eligibility criterion for the bursary is :
The applicant must be a member of the Division. The applicant must have made attempts to secure funding from their employer in the first instance. The applicant must demonstrate how they will secure their travel and accommodation costs. The applicant must identify a rationale of between 150 and 200 words as to how attending the conference will contribute to their personal development. Following the conference, the applicant must submit a reflective or evaluative piece for publication in Forensic Update. This should summarise a keynote speech or paper from a conference symposium and its potential impact upon forensic practice or contribute to extending discussion of an issue arising from the conference. Successful applicants will be advised which keynote speech or symposium they are being asked to attend prior to the conference. This will need to be of publishable standard, between 400-500 words, and completed by 31 July 2014. Further details relating to the publication will be made available to successful applicants.
Guidance on submitting an application for a bursary:
In order to make an application for a bursary, candidates should complete the application form appended. The completed form should then be returned on or after 19 February 2014 The deadline to submit a bursary application is 12 March 2014 Bursaries will be allocated based on the order in which they are received and any applications received prior to the above date will not be considered. All applications should be submitted electronically to [email protected]
Please note that if you are successful in obtaining a bursary and then fail to attend the conference without evidence of acceptable extenuating (non-work related) circumstances, then you will be charged the cost price for the place. This is to avoid the DFP paying colleagues who then choose simply not to attend. This incurs an unrecoverable cost to the divisional membership. This has unfortunately happened on recently DFP funded training events, so we are seeking to avoid this.
We look forward to receiving your applications.
