ELED 1010 FALL 2007 INTERVIEW QUESTIONS EMPOWERMENT! Teacher candidates will use portfolio to respond to questions. (i.e., show and tell) Process: The question will be (1) asked/read to the interview group as a whole, (2) teacher candidates are given time to find the answer in their portfolio (which contains their newly written teaching-learning philosophy paper, practicum artifacts and reflections, course practicum & readings journals, and other course materials), and then (3) a teacher candidate is selected to answer the question. *** Recent teaching = Teaching Extravaganza at UMD on November 24 or lesson taught at their practicum site. Possible Questions 1. What is a classroom procedure you used or observed that you think will be valuable to use in the management of your classroom. 2. Given your practicum journal, what did you learn about the teacher as a professional? 3. Tell us a type of diversity you encountered in your field experience, this excludes gender and age, and how the teacher adapted the lesson/situation to accommodate the learner(s). 4. Based on what you have seen in your classroom experiences or participated in e.g., practicum lesson, teaching extravaganza, show and tell us an effective teaching strategy/ method. Tell us how it was used. 5. Based on what you have seen in the classroom, what is the most important thing you have learned about learners in the school setting? 6. Based on what you have seen in the classroom, tell and show us an effective behavior management procedure. How and when was it used? 7. Tell us something that a teacher in a public school setting needs to know about teaching a diverse population of children. 8. Based on your recent teaching, show and tell us about an activity you have taught and assessed/evaluated. What were your results? What did the children learn? 9. Perusing your teaching/learning philosophy, show and tell us an important belief you have about teaching. First read to us the section you are referring to. 10. Based on a recent teaching experience, show and tell us how you had to change/adapt a lesson to meet the needs of the children. 11. How will you communicate with parents? 12. Based on recent teaching, read to us an example of a behavioral objective you used in a lesson plan. Did the learners meet the objective? How do you know? 13. Based on recent teaching, like teaching extravaganza, tell us about collaboration. 14. Based on recent teaching, tell us how you would incorporate technology into your teaching. 15. What suggestion would you have for a teacher who is having a problem with children getting out of control during movement (transition) from center/station time to the large group participation? 16. Show us one of your best webs and tell us how you would use concept mapping/webbing as a strategy in your classroom. (graphic organizer) 17. Given INTASC standard 2,3,4,5,6,7, or 8, (1) read to us the standard, (2) show us and explain your artifact, (3) read to us your reflection that tell us about how the artifact meets the standard number and why it is important to your role as a teacher. CAN BE REPREATED ASKING FOR DIFFERENT INTASC STANDARDS. 18. Given a photo from your portfolio, show and tell us about the photo. Why is the photo important to you as a teacher? 21. How would incorporate volunteers or parents into your classroom routine? 22. Since you may be teaching in a school with a diverse population, you will need to have lots of effective teaching strategies. Name and describe a Multiple Intelligence teaching strategy that you might use in your classroom. 23. Name a strategy you would use when incorporating literacy circles in your reading, language arts program. 24. Name a strategy you would use when incorporating math into reading/language arts program.
