0.1 WATERPROOFING MATERIALS

CRYSTALLINE WATERPROOFING 071616 - 2 Copyright 2017 AIA MasterSpec Premium 3/17 PRODUCT MASTERSPEC LICENSED BY ARCOM TO XYPEX CHEMICAL CORPORATION.

A. Crystalline Waterproofing: Prepackaged, [gray] [white]-colored proprietary blend of portland cement, specially treated sand, and active chemicals that, when mixed with water and applied, penetrates into concrete and concrete unit masonry and reacts chemically with the byproducts of cement hydration in the presence of water to develop crystalline growth within substrate capillaries to produce an impervious, dense, waterproof substrate; with properties complying with or exceeding the criteria specified below.

1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Xypex Chemical Corporation; [Xypex Concentrate] [Xypex Concentrate with Xypex Modified] or a comparable product by one of the following:

a. American Permaquik Inc. b. Anti-Hydro International, Inc. c. Conproco Corporation. d. IPA Systems, Inc. e. .

2. Water Permeability: Treat samples with two coats of crystalline waterproofing applied per manufacturer's written instructions. Pressure test samples to 175 psi or 405 ft. head of water (1.2 MPa or 123.4 m head of water). Control samples shall leak with treated samples, after crystalline growth has occurred, exhibiting no measurable leakage. 3. Crystalline Penetration: Crystallizing capability of waterproofing material shall be evidenced by independent scanning electron microscope (SEM) photographs. Minimum 12-inch (30-cm) crystal growth on coating surface shall be evident with 1000X magnification 1 year after application of the coating. 4. Acid Resistance: Perform independent testing to determine "sulfuric acid resistance of concrete specimens." Test treated concrete samples against untreated control samples. Each sample shall be immersed in 5 percent sulfuric acid and weighed weekly for 10 weeks. Untreated samples shall exhibit at least 8 times more mass loss than treated samples. 5. Potable Water Approval: Provide valid approval certificate from NSF (NSF 61), DWI, or other recognized independent certification agency.

0.2 ACCESSORY MATERIALS

A. Patching Compound: Factory-premixed cementitious repair mortar, crack filler, or sealant with crystalline waterproofing properties; recommended by waterproofing manufacturer for filling and patching tie holes, honeycombs, reveals, and other imperfections; and compatible with substrate and other materials indicated.

1. Basis-of-Design Product: Subject to compliance with requirements, provide Xypex Chemical Corporation; Megamix II or a comparable product by one of the following:

a. American Permaquik Inc. b. Anti-Hydro International, Inc. c. Conproco Corporation. d. IPA Systems, Inc. e. .

C. Water: Potable.

0.3 MIXES

A. Crystalline Waterproofing: Add prepackaged dry ingredients to water according to manufacturer's written instructions. Mix together with mechanical mixer or by hand to required consistency.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

0.1 PREPARATION

A. Comply with manufacturer's written instructions.

B. Protect other work from damage caused by cleaning, preparation, and application of waterproofing. Provide temporary enclosure[ to confine spraying operation and] to ensure adequate ambient temperatures and ventilation conditions for application.

C. Do not allow waterproofing, patching, and plugging materials to enter reveals or annular spaces intended for resilient sealants or gaskets, such as joint spaces between pipes and pipe sleeves.

CRYSTALLINE WATERPROOFING 071616 - 4 Copyright 2017 AIA MasterSpec Premium 3/17 PRODUCT MASTERSPEC LICENSED BY ARCOM TO XYPEX CHEMICAL CORPORATION.

D. Repair active water leaks and cracks or construction joints larger than 1/64 inch (0.4 mm) with plugging compound.

E. Repair damaged or unsatisfactory substrate with patching compound.

F. Surface Preparation:

1. For smooth surfaces (e.g. where steel forms are used), clean, water-blast, lightly sand- blast, or acid etch surfaces covered with form oil or other contaminants to provide a clean absorbent surface.

a. Provide surfaces with open capillaries for "tooth and suction" preparation for crystalline waterproofing treatment. b. Provide required minimum CSP-3 per "International Concrete Repair Institute Concrete Surface Profile Chips" or equivalent. Saturate surfaces with water before acid application. After acid etch application, flush concrete thoroughly with clean water. c. Provide rough wood float or broom finish for horizontal surfaces. Where smooth trowel finish is required on horizontal surface, apply crystalline waterproofing material by dry shake method at time of concrete finishing in accordance with manufacturer's product data.

2. Provide a saturated surface dry (SSD) substrate. Thoroughly saturate concrete surfaces with clean water to aid proper diffusion of crystalline waterproofing chemistry, and to ensure crystalline growth formation deep within concrete pores. Remove excess water where glistening water is not observed on concrete surface. Re-wet concrete surfaces that dry out prior to application.

0.2 APPLICATION

A. General: Comply with waterproofing manufacturer's written instructions for application and curing.

1. First Coat (of one or two coat application): Apply waterproofing slurry coat to locations indicated on Drawings. 2. Second Coat (of two coat application): Where indicated on Drawings, apply second waterproofing slurry coat after first coat has reached initial set, but while still "green" (less than 48 hours). Cure by misting coating with water between coats. Ensure first coat is in saturated surface dry (SSD) condition before application of second coat.

B. Curing: Moist-cure waterproofing with a mist fog spray of clean water three times a day for two to three days. Wet burlap and specialty curing blankets may also be effective for curing during the prescribed period. In warm climates, more than three sprayings per day may be necessary to prevent excessive drying of applied coating.

0.3 PROTECTION

A. During curing period, protect treated surfaces from damage by wind, sun, rain, puddling of water, and temperatures below 36 deg F (2 deg C).

CRYSTALLINE WATERPROOFING 071616 - 5 Copyright 2017 AIA MasterSpec Premium 3/17 PRODUCT MASTERSPEC LICENSED BY ARCOM TO XYPEX CHEMICAL CORPORATION.

1. If plastic sheeting is used, raise it off applied crystalline waterproofing coating to allow sufficient air circulation. 2. Protect applied crystalline waterproofing until coating is hard enough to not be damaged; three days or longer for pedestrian traffic and seven days or longer for vehicular traffic.
