FGCUScholars Ambassador Program Overview and Application FGCUScholars Ambassador Program The mission of the FGCUScholars Ambassador Program is to empower student leaders to assist peers in developing stronger critical thinking, information literacy, and writing skills as these students mature into scholars within their majors. FGCUScholars Ambassadors also help students realize more meaningful and representative experiences within their college and university.

FGCUScholars Ambassadors will develop programing and opportunities that align with the Quality Enhancement Plan (FGCUScholars: Think – Discover – Write) as well as help to define the university experience. As a result, activities of FGCUScholars Ambassadors will take place both in- and out-side of the classroom. These activities will be designed to educate students on FGCUScholars/QEP initiatives, engage students in active, participatory events with others, provide students with tools that they need to succeed academically, and gauge student interests and perspectives pertaining to their education. There will be 12 FGCUScholars Ambassadors to parallel the 12 faculty members leading the aligned efforts from the following units:

 College of Arts and Sciences (2)  College of Education (2)  College of Health Professions and Social Work (2)  Lutgert College of Business (2)  U.A. Whitaker College of Engineering (2)  At Large (2)

 All positions are open to undergraduate and graduate students as well as declared and undeclared majors.

Minimum Qualifications for Selection  Applicant must be a Florida Gulf Coast University student enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or graduate degree program.  Applicant must be able to commit to the Program for a minimum of one full academic year (fall and spring semesters).  A 3.0 accumulative grade point average (GPA) is required, and must be maintained for continued employment.  Applicant must be in good standing with the University (i.e., not currently on disciplinary or academic probation).  Applicant must agree to a fingerprint screening and background check upon placement in the program.  This is a new emerging effort, and you will have the chance to create. As a result, an applicant must possess strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and collaboratively, and the ability to be patient, flexible, and have a great sense of humor.  Upon selection, all students in the program are expected to attend mandatory ambassador trainings, orientations, and meetings. o Orientation and Training will take place during the second week of November and the first week of spring semester in January.  Upon selection, all students in the Program are expected to: o Attend bi-weekly FGCUScholars Ambassador meetings o Attend 2+ events/month hosted by their academic unit and/or FGCUScholars o Tabling 2x month (surveys, sharing opportunities) o Be a voice for their college and peers o Classroom visits (when applicable) o Workshops 1x semester (student participated, developed, and/or led) o Serve as a positive representative of the University, the Offices of Undergraduate Studies and Undergraduate Scholarship, and themselves.

Program Goals and Objectives Assist students by helping to create an environment to foster student ownership of their critical thinking, information literacy, and writing as they become scholars in their disciplines.

Time Commitment FGCUScholars Ambassadors will be expected to work on average five-ten hours per week for 16 weeks in the fall semester (August – December) and 16 weeks in the spring semester (January – May). Hours will be logged by the student on a form provided by the lead student and Director of the Office of Undergraduate Scholarship.

Compensation Students who are selected to participate in the Program may be compensated by one of the following:

 Direct or indirect independent study with the development of an academic proposal specific to the student’s interest within certain areas of study (academic credit)  Internship or practicum within certain areas of study (academic credit)  Service-Learning hours to be credited toward graduation requirement
