COASTAL-GEORGETOWN AAUW SEPTEMBER 2014 CALENDAR

Breaking barriers for women and girls encourages girls to participate in STEM activities from an early age. These girls are on a seining mission and enjoy examining the silversides, baby flounder, and puffer fish they catch and then returning them to the ocean.

THURS. SEPT 4 ALA NOTABLE BOOKS-Lewes Library, 10-12 noon Meets the 1st Thursday of the Month Orphan Train by Christina Baker Kline. A novel about the search for family that illuminates a forgotten chapter of American history.

TUES. SEPT 9 ALA NOTABLE BOOKS- Selbyville Library, 1-3 pm Meets the 2ed Tuesday of the Month

TUES. SEPT 9 DIVERSITY BOOK CLUB 10:00am Note: This group will regularly meet on the 1st Tuesday of the month (This was changed because of the holiday) Winter’s Bone by David Wordell Pat Sheehy is both the hostess and leader THURS. SEPT 18 AAUW MEETING: KINGS CREEK COUNTRY CLUB REHOBOTH BEACH 11 TO 2 The program for this month is an interactive presentation outlining the AAUW/Coastal Georgetown Branch’s committees, interest groups and study groups.

(TO BE DECIDED) ECONOMICS BOOK GROUP 1 to 3 pm (Usually the 4th Wednesday, but may be changed because of Rosh Hashanah) Sheri Borin, Hostess Discussions on Economic Policy, Problems and Prospects Focuses on understanding the economic issues in the news as well as the long-term economic challenges facing this country. The main topics include: how markets work, money & monetary policy, the 2008 financial crisis, deficits & debt, and globalization. A book that gives a fairly accessible discussion of economic issues is Greg Ip, The Little Book of Economics: How the Economy Works in the Real World.

MONTHLY MEETING THURS. OCT. 16 AAUW MEETING: COTTAGE CAFÉ BETHANY BEACH 11:00AM to 2:00PM. Ms. Jackie Finer and Ms. Carol Wzoreck of the Greater Lewes Community Village will share their mission and vision. The GLCV is a volunteer driven, non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of senior residents of the Greater Lewes Area. It is a part of a national network of over two hundred villages that share information and resources that benefit their communities. Included in this presentation will be information on universal accessibility design.
