The ACT Branch’s fifth “OAA-ADF Oration” delivered by the Chief of the Defence Force

Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin AC “Military mental health - from shellshock to PTSD and beyond”

The confronting and dangerous reality of conflict is such that everyone who goes to war is changed by the experience. While this maxim has stood constant over the past century, the attitude and approach toward military mental health has evolved significantly over time.

As a veteran of the air conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan himself, Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin, AC, knows first-hand the impact of war on Australia's service men and women and the invisible wounds which leave a painful scar. With Australian forces recently returning to Iraq, the Chief of the Defence Force will discuss the evolution and progress of military mental health over the past 100 years, addressing the issues facing contemporary veterans after more than a decade at war, and the challenges that lay ahead.

VENUE: The ADF Theatrette accessed from the foyer of Building R 1, Russell Offices - the large block to the rear and to the left of the Russell Hill complex - looking from the “Eagle” monument - and backing onto Constitution Ave.

PARKING will be available after 5pm around the Russell Hill complex, incl. the car park on the city side of Building R1 and along Constitution Avenue.
