MKM ECC PTO Minutes – October 25, 2011

1. Call to order – 7:34 2. Treasurer’s Report – Marie Chobor a. Marie said that there are some checks in her folder if you are looking for checks 3. President’s Report – Angela Penna a. Before you send out a flier please send Angela an electronic copy b. No other updates 4. Vice President’s Report – Lauren Cordo (No Report) 5. Correspondence – Nicole Sponheimer a. Sent thank you notes to Little Flower Confirmation Class and thanks for helping at Welcome Back Social b. Sent thank you to Boy Scouts for helping at the Welcome Back Social 6. Principal’s Report – Mrs. Corley-Hand a. Thank you for the Welcome Back Social b. Columbus Day – In Service on the Bullying Law – big focus was the difference between teasing and bullying – name calling is not necessarily bullying – Reviewed the process – 1 – goes to Corley-Hand then to Ready and then to Rattner – c. November 14 – same person who did the inservice for us will do a Parent Workshop at GL d. Other ½ of the day the staff saw movie “The Race to Nowhere” – it will be shown again November 30, at 7:30 at GL e. Strategic Planning Committee – Kick off meeting doesn’t mean you are stuck on the committee – you can go to just find out what it is all about f. Question – was the Halloween Parade changed to 2:00 from 1:30? Angela – says it has always been at 2:00 g. Question – are parties before or after? Answer: After h. Morning parade is 10:30 i. Mrs. Lombardo will be retiring December 31, her last day is right before the holidays – a Committee has screened 10 applicants, and the recommendation was sent to Rattner – and the new secretary will be starting during that last week before Winter Break, overlapping 7. Teacher’s Representative – Mrs. Howard, a. Mrs. Howard – at last faculty meeting when they asked all the parents to bring in all the supplies – could the PTO organize parent volunteers to help them organize all the supplies that came in for the 1st 2 days of school. b. Question: How are things going on the buses? Answer Mrs. Corely Hand – there will always be issues on the buses – they are never alone, but they are feeling their oats. Its not severe – I do a bus review of safety rules everyday afterschool, and I did go on every bus and talk to every kid on the bus. I have been making my way to each classroom to read a book called ONE – it’s a story about standing up for each other and being your own person and being happy with who you are. 8. Committee Reports . Adult Social – Candice Eisenberger, Gentiana Vandeventer, Carla Costa o February 25, information on the Website about it. o We need to come up with a price of the tickets o The Berkeley Plaza is charging us $60 o Currently accepting donations for a gift basket- we do have letters to present to the local businesses o Even if you have something laying around the house i.e. a gift cards o Classroom baskets – flyers need to go out soon . Audit – Eva Dooley, Laura Raftery o We have been through it all – summarized the findings and passed them on to Marie – should be able to get everything fixed before she submits it to the accountant – which is before Thanksgiving . Bilingual Support . BOE Liaison . Book Fair o Doing very very well – still have 9 more classes to purchase tomorrow – open from 8:45 – 1:40 tomorrow . Box Tops o 413 at the moment with a goal of 1000 by the end of the year o Question: We haven’t gotten a sheet asking for Box Tops yet? We need to send those out soon. It’s a more user friendly way to do this o There is a box top website and you can print them off . Curriculum Liaison o Meeting this Friday – There are 4 a year . Directory o Question – a lot of names didn’t get in, just because people didn’t go on line and do it? The name isn’t even in there o Is there a reason we don’t have electronically? Maybe we should we do that. o You could save it as a PDF and forward it to the membership o Website would be a privacy issue o There is a difference it doesn’t list all kids alphabetically o Woodruff it’s a PDF emailed and it is only given to those who are in it. o Only members of the PTO should receive it o There was a lot of confusion this year o There was no way to double check that your information went through – it can be fixed for next year – we need feedback o Did people not want to be in it? o Did they think that they were in it and they weren’t? . Expo o April 17, 2012 – same day as Election Day . Fundraising o Original Works underway – deadline is Friday the 28th

. IN-Class Professionals o December 7 – Author coming o December 20 – Frog and Toad o November 23 – Cultural Arts – Peace Maker . Membership . . Newsletter o Going well – hoping to send it out to review hopefully by tomorrow o Finding visuals to go with some of the write ups o Has everyone sent it through Mrs. Lombardo o Need the logo of the Teddy Bear – Eva didn’t get the email, but she will send that to him. o The Advertisement for the Adult Social – any other advertisements o Facts that are pertinent to the school . Spirit Clothing o Profit $650 and our goal was $700 – 74 magnets are being sold at the book fair. o I have a bunch of samples left over from last year – use them in teacher appreciation baskets o We have old Hamilton Terrace Shirts what do we do with that . Welcome Back Social o Thank you to every one it was a great success o Thank you Troop 68 and the Confirmation Class o Mrs. Corely-Hand – we used some of the left over stuff today because there was a Water Main leak o We came in under budget – but no profit o Marie said in total we have taken in $9,000 with membership and the Social

And Dates? o Bowling – Bumper Bowling o What about March? o Can we ask the Girl Scout Troops to babysit . There have been issues with scheduling rooms for the Girl Scouts ? Answer: That all comes out of the board office – I can’t add people it has to go through a website
