POSITION: CUSTODIAN DEPARTMENT: PARKS & RECREATION

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under supervision, cleans and performs minor maintenance of municipal buildings; Assist other custodians involved in cleaning tasks, set ups and breakdowns of events; occasional weekend work required; and does related work as assigned and required.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent; and two (2) years work experience in maintenance and janitorial work, experience in cleaning and caring for buildings. Must posses a valid Texas driver’s license.

TRAINING/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, floor finishes and their application; skills to perform minor repairs including painting; knowledge and understanding of warning labels.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Assists with minor building repairs; changes light bulbs; operate floor buffer; strips and finishes floors; operates carpet and furniture shampoo machine; dusts all areas of buildings and furniture; assists with painting of buildings; assists with set up of tables, chairs, risers, stages and related meeting room equipment i.e., City Council room.

Use good judgment to work safely and use equipment properly; lifts and carries up to 50 lbs; pulls or pushes, up to 150 lbs of furniture and equipment with assist tools; stands, kneels, squats, stoops and twists for extended periods of time while assisting in repairs or setups and breakdowns; works indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures including heat, cold, temperature changes and inclement weather; some exposure to chemical, dust, fumes and odor hazards using proper safety precautions; communicate effectively and courteously with the public and other city employees; occasional weekend work required.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Change vacuum belts and pads on floor maintenance equipment, cleans equipment, and performs minor servicing and/or preventive maintenance on equipment; inventory and order cleaning materials and paper products for buildings.
