IAC hosted its annual Conference from May 3-7, 2014 at the Victoria Convention Centre in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. The Conference format included one day for the International Research Seminar, a pre-conference day, 3 sessions for 6 round table groups, a poster session, 2 panel sessions and 4 keynote speakers.

Conference Organization

The Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA) was primarily responsible for the logistics of the conference. The CCPA National Office consulted regularly with IAC Executive members via email, phone and Skype regarding decisions about things such as keynote speakers, social events, presenter gifts, delegates bags, the program, refreshments, meeting rooms, etc.

In 2013, CCPA and IAC circulated a request for members interested in participating on a Scientific Committee to evaluate conference proposals. A committee was established with representation from across the world and with members from both associations.

All conference proposals were de-identified and scored using established criteria. Submissions were reviewed by three separate Committee members. Results were tallied by the CCPA National Office. Final decisions regarding proposal selections were then made by members of the IAC Executive.

Conference Structure

International Research Seminar The International Research Seminar is was held on May 3 and will be chaired by Courtland Lee and Nancy Arthur. A President’s Round Table will be held on the same day.

Pre-Conference The Pre-Conference was held on May 4, with 3 full-day workshops and 2 half-day workshops. Due to few registrations, 6 pre-conference workshops were cancelled.

Due to low registration for round tables 3 and 4, the two groups were combined into one.

Panels There were two timeslots for panel sessions. Each timeslot had 4 panels scheduled for a total of 8 panels.

Social Events A Welcome Reception was held immediately following the opening keynote speaker.

Social events included a walking tour of Victoria and a Harbour Ferry tour.

Two additional social options (a visit to Craigdarroch Castle and a visit to the Conservatory of Music) had to be cancelled due to lack of participation.
