OVMS Spotlight
Picture: Patrick Ault, Carol Gayhart, Heidi McCadden, George Bergan and Megan Wetzel registered, enrolled and scheduled nearly 400 students during the first week of August.
The OVMS Spotlight is excited to be back for the 2016-17 school year! On August 1st students and their parents began the registration process which concluded with the start of classes on Tuesday August the 9th. OVMS office staff set a Guinness certified world record by registering 163 students in one day! On a sad note, Mr. Ault has temporarily lost the use of his right hand from opening over 3000 lockers.
New teachers to the building include Ms. Nikki Schattner who takes over the ICE room duties. The ICE room serves students with physical and developmental disabilities. Ms. Jocelyn McKay will fill the Agriculture position that teaches classes at OVHS and OVMS. Similarly, Ms. Angela McGlothlin will teach Art in both buildings. The Patriot band will get long needed help with the hire of Assistant Director Mr. Thomas Russell. Mr. Russell will work with musicians in grades 7-12. Filling the void left by Mrs. Beth Petry is Mr. Kevin Robertson. He will direct 7th and 8th grade choir as well as the three high school choirs. We will learn more about the new staff in future episodes of the Spotlight.
Some events to keep in mind include the Back to School Dance on Friday August 19th from 3:00 to 5:00. The OVMS Open House will take place on Tuesday August 23rd from 4:30 to 6:00. Fall pictures will be snapped on the morning of Thursday August 25th.
The mission of the OVMS Spotlight is to keep the community informed of all the great things that are going on at 626 West State Highway 46! If you have any suggestions, comments or ideas for stories please contact Mr. George Bergan.
