PURPOSE This position provides both early intervention and family support intervention and strategies to individuals and families.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provide early intervention, crisis and family support strategies and techniques, skill development, assistance and information to individuals and families. 2. Assist individuals and families to put into practice strategies of parenting and household skills they have learned through counselling or other programs. 3. Contribute to the holistic planning and provision of community education, groups and support in accordance with program and Centacare requirements. 4. Provide referrals, information and advocacy. 5. Participate in core training, professional supervision, professional development and a range of meetings. 6. Maintain appropriate files and records, data entry for case management database and complete other required documentation within agency guidelines. 7. Provide and maintain flexible service delivery which will ensure culturally appropriate engagement of individuals, families and children. 8. Provide feedback and work cooperatively with other team members. 9. Comply with legislation (including Workplace Health and Safety, Privacy and Equal Employment Opportunity), service agreements and Quality Management System requirements. 10. Travel and provides services to other centres, in-home or outreach sites as required. 11. Other duties as directed by the Team Leader.

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS 1. Early intervention, prevention, support and case management with families and individuals completed. 2. Families are provided with education/support in parenting and household skills. 3. Community education and support provided. 4. Integrated connection with both service providers, stakeholders and the community. 5. Participated in training, supervision and meetings. 6. Client files and documentation accurate and in accordance with program guidelines.

SELECTION CRITERIA Mandatory Selection Criteria MSC1: Possession of relevant qualifications relating to the human services field, early childhood, Community Work, Youth Work or community development. MSC2: Possession of a ‘C’ class driver’s licence. MSC3: Ability to possess a Positive Notice for Child Related Employment (Blue Card and a yellow card exemption) from the Public Safety Business Agency (PSBA).

Key Selection Criteria KSC1: Demonstrated ability to understand and work alongside complex family functioning in a broad range of cultural and social contexts and knowledge of abuse and dysfunction within families. KSC2: Demonstrated in experience in household and child management. KSC3: Demonstrated ability to impart knowledge and skills in a non-judgemental way. KSC4: Knowledge and understanding of the issues associated with indigenous communities and the capacity to utilise existing knowledge. KSC5: Well developed communication skills of written, electronic and verbal for working with a broad based network of service providers and a culturally diverse clientele. KSC6: Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people.

Desirable Selection Criteria DSC1: Knowledge, skills and experience in one or more of – group work; community education and community development.
