A RESOLUTION Adjourning the Senate in Honor and Loving Memory of Vesper Singleton

A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor and loving memory of Vesper Singleton. WHEREAS, Vesper Singleton was born in 1928 to Clay and Mae Ritchie Singleton in Anco, Kentucky. He attended Sassafras Elementary and graduated from Carr Creek High School in 1949. He was a member of the 1948 Carr Creek basketball team that advanced to the semi-finals of the Boy's State Tournament, only to lose in overtime. He received a basketball scholarship from Pikeville College, and then transferred to Eastern Kentucky University, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees. He served his country with distinction in the United States Army; and WHEREAS, Vesper Singleton served the Commonwealth as an educator for three decades, and worked tirelessly for educational progress both in his local community and statewide. He began his career as an educator at Yellow Creek Elementary and served as a teacher and coach at Brodhead High School, returning to Knott County in 1960, where he was named principal of Carr Creek Elementary School. In 1963, he was appointed principal of Hindman High School. When the Knott County high schools were consolidated, he returned to the new Carr Creek Elementary as principal, where he stayed until his retirement. He participated in numerous educational committees and organizations locally and throughout the Commonwealth. He was a board member of the Hazard Appalachian Regional Hospital and was the former Chairman of the WYMT

Mountain Classic Scholarship Committee; and WHEREAS, Vesper Singleton traversed these earthly bounds on January 28, 2012, at the age of 83, and an entire community joins his family and friends in mourning his loss. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Juanita Back Singleton. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Singleton (Mark David) Goss, and his granddaughters, Elizabeth Goss (Matthew) Kuhn and Sara Anne Goss. He was a faithful member of Hindman First Baptist Church; NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate hereby expresses its most profound sense of sorrow and proffers its sincerest condolences to the family and friends of Vesper Singleton.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor and loving memory of Vesper Singleton.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is directed to transmit three copies of this Resolution to Rebecca Goss, 112 Windridge Drive, Nicholasville, Kentucky 40356.
