Definitions Dates & Deadlines Cost of Attendance (COA) –is an estimate of how much it will cost for a student to go to school for one academic year; Varies – admissions application includes estimates for tuition, books, housing, meals, deadline varied by department transportation, etc. January 1 – earliest you can file a Stafford Loans – Subsidized are 0% interest while in school. FAFSA Unsubsidized accrue interest at 6.8% while in school. These are the best loans available to students and must be repaid. Late April – when awarding of graduate students begins Graduate PLUS loans – loans based on credit. Students can be approved or denied. Students would want to accept this loan May 1 – suggested date you file after they have borrowed all their Stafford loans. This is a loan the FAFSA by that must be repaid.
