EXPERIENCE - EMPLOYMENT THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY - PETROLEUM ENGINEERING DIVISION (PED) 1988 To 1989 HM Principal Inspector - Occupational Health and Safety: Joined DEn - PED in May 1988 on secondment from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and was promoted to Principal Inspector responsible for advising the department on occupational health and safety offshore. On leaving permanent employment with the department, I was re-engaged to write the official guidance in support of S.I. 971 - The Offshore Installations (Safety Representatives and Safety Committees) Regulations 1989 – regulations which I was responsible for drafting in the aftermath of Piper Alpha. I completed this work within deadline and to the satisfaction of Government Ministers.
