Specific What is to be accomplished?

Measurable How can you track progress and outcomes?

Attainable What will you do to achieve it?

Relevant Is it within your control/influence?

Time-Bound When are the milestones for progress and completion?

Circle of Influence

When you feel overwhelmed as you create your plan for moving forward, use the circle of influence to regain control, stop being triggered, and focus your attention and energy in a positive direction.

First: Notice all of your concerns. Be aware of how you react, how you think and feel, how you get triggered. Become self-aware.

Second: Determine where you can take action and influence the situation. This becomes your circle of influence. Choose to not focus on those issues outside your circle of influence where you have absolutely no control or influence.

Focus on your circle of influence and take action there. Become more aware of others and the situation within your circle of influence.

Third: Creatively explore how you can proactively address issues within your circle of influence that you can do something about. The more you focus on your circle of influence, the larger it tends to become – it will enlarge in ways you did not previously believe possible.
