Phi Alpha Theta

Phi Alpha Theta Alpha Zeta Chi Chapter California State University, San Marcos Membership Form

Dear CSUSM History Enthusiasts,

Phi Alpha Theta is a national history society whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication, and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. It seeks to bring students, teachers, and writers of history together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist historical research and publication by its members in a variety of ways. Phi Alpha Theta was established in 1921 and now has over 800 chapters with more than 280,000 members at universities throughout the United States--more than any other accredited four-year college honor society.

CSUSM’s Alpha Zeta Chi chapter has a proud tradition of sponsoring informative and fun historically oriented activities, including guest speakers, a film series, field trips, and the 2003 Phi Alpha Theta Regional Conference (which was attended by over 100 participants from universities throughout southern California, including 49 students who presented papers). We hope to continue the tradition both this year and well into the future.

The Alpha Zeta Chi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta is now conducting a fall-semester application drive for new members. To be eligible for membership, students must have completed at least 12 units of history courses with a GPA of 3.1 or better and an overall CSUSM GPA of 3.0 or better (which includes your transfer GPA if you are a new transfer student to CSUSM). The dues for a lifetime membership in Phi Alpha Theta plus one year of Alpha Zeta Chi chapter dues are $60.00. If you qualify and would like to apply for membership in Phi Alpha Theta, please fill out and along with an unofficial transcript and a check or money order payable to “Phi Alpha Theta” for your dues payment--return this form to Patti Manley or Dr. Darel Engen (Markstein Hall 231), by Wednesday, November 12th 2008.
