DALEY DEBUTANTES BATON AND DRUM CORPS NEWSLETTER NOV. 5, 2011 www.daleydebutantes.com Follow us on FACEBOOK at “Daley Debutantes Baton and Drum Corps” TWIRLERS: The senior twirlers will have green lightsticks taped to their batons for the West Allis & Menomonee Falls evening parades. Jr. twirlers & Daley Dolls will have tinsel taped to their batons & will receive a poinsettia to wear on their sashes for all Christmas parades. The corps owns the poinsettias & buys the tinsel as well as the lightsticks. The bill is over $150.00, but adds much to our appearance. Please bring safety pins for the poinsettias. If you have a red poinsettia please bring it. Junior & Doll parents – pin poinsettia on top of shamrock. *** FOR ALL PARADES: Please ask friends and/or relatives to be banner carriers for our corps. They need to wear black pants and black shoes or boots (or white tennis shoes). Tell them to dress for warmth.

NOV. 19 th , SATURDAY, at 9:30A.M. MILW. DOWNTOWN CHRISTMAS PARADE This parade will be televised live on Ch. 6. The parade starts at the lakefront and ends at 4th & Wisconsin Ave. *** One of our two buses will leave the Kmart parking lot, 3100 N. Mayfair Rd. (1 block north of Burleigh St. on Hy. 100) at 7:30 a.m. as our corps is near the beginning of the parade & it’s required that our buses report to the start of the parade by 8:15 a.m. From Kmart the bus will go to the MSOE Todd Wehr Conference Center at 1047 N. Broadway (there is plenty of parking). Those who board the bus at MSOE must report at 7:50 a.m. At the end of the parade the bus will go back to MSOE. Last stop will be at Kmart for those who parked there. ***Our second bus will have a 7:50 a.m. pick-up at Beulah Brinton Community Center, 2555 S. Bay St. in Bay View. Directions: I94 to Holt Ave. exit. Turn east onto Holt Ave. Turn left onto Chase Ave. Turn right onto Oklahoma Ave. Turn left onto Clement Ave. and cross KK. Proceed to Potter and turn right onto Potter for one block. OR : 794 east (the Hoan Bridge) to 1st exit- Port of Milwaukee. Turn left onto Carferry Dr. which will wind around up to the top of the hill (Lake Michigan & the Coast Guard Station are on your left). Turn right onto Russell Ave. for 5 blocks. Turn right onto Bay St. for 1 block. The second bus will return to Beulah Brinton after the parade. Parents may ride on either bus from any pick-up point.

THERE WILL BE PRACTICE FOR SENIOR TWIRLERS, COLOR GUARD MEMBERS, MUSICIANS, AND JUVENILE TEAM TWIRLERS (contest twirlers who are at least seven years of age) Sat., Nov. 19 th , after the parade, at the Beulah Brinton Community Center on Bay & Potter in Bay View. If you are driving from MSOE, take Water St. south. Water will turn into S. 1st. and then become Kinnickinnic Ave. Proceed on KK under the railroad trestle one block to Bay Street (at the stoplight). Turn left on Bay St. and proceed about 9 blocks to Beulah Brinton. Practice will be from 12:00 p.m. till 4:00 p.m. Bring lunch to eat at the Beulah Brinton Center (there are also 2 fast-food restaurants nearby). Girls- bring tennis shoes and shorts or sweatpants for practice.

ALL MEMBERS AND PARENTS: If it’s time for us to return on the buses and you have not arrived to pick up your child, we’ll take your corps member to Beulah Brinton. REMEMBER that parades are held regardless of weather. If you have questions pertaining to parades, please call a captain. Sherry brings all accessories with her to the start of each parade. Our corps owns raincoats, but if it’s raining wear your own raincoat- we don’t have all sizes available. JR. MEMBERS & DALEY DOLLS: Your corps picture will be taken at the end of the Downtown Christmas Parade on Nov. 19th. Parents are to meet us as soon as we finish marching because we might go to a different location to have a nice background.

NOV. 27 TH , SUNDAY, at 4:30P.M. MENOMONEE FALLS CHRISTMAS PARADE: Meet at 4:00 p.m. promptly as the corps is near the beginning of the parade. It takes time for the senior twirlers to tape the lightsticks on their batons & for junior members and Daley Dolls to tape the tinsel to their batons. Be at the Pilgrim Shopping Center which is on Main St. (Hy. 74) & Pilgrim Rd. in Menomonee Falls. Exit the expressway on Main St. going west. By 4:10 p.m. our corps will walk to the start of the parade at Main St. & Harrison Blvd. The route will continue west to Appleton Ave. & at the Four Corners (Main St. & Appleton Ave.) the parade turns on Appleton Ave. heading southeast 3 blocks to Arthur Ave. The parade is less than one mile.

DEC. 3 rd , SATURDAY, at 4:45 P.M. WEST ALLIS CHRISTMAS PARADE ~ Meet at State Fair Park at 4:15P.M. Enter at Gate 4 on 84th St. (just north of Greenfield Ave.). The parade starts at 79th & Greenfield and goes east on Greenfield to 67th St. Parking for pick-up of participants is available in several lots near the end of the parade. WINTER PRACTICES: Sunday, January 8 th and Sunday, February 19 th at MSOE Todd Wehr Conference Center from 12:00 noon to 3:00 P.M. You can stay to practice your solo routines until 4:00pm. DIRECTIONS: the center is at the corner of Highland & Broadway on the MSOE campus, 1047 N. Broadway. Parking is available.

SHAMROCK FESTIVAL: SUNDAY, MARCH 4 th , 2012 ~ Tentative date.

FUND RAISER PROJECTS: Once again you can sell our beautiful poinsettias as well as Rainbow Fundraising products – candy, cookie dough, cheese, sausage, etc. for your personal account. If you did not get order blanks at the parade, please get them from Marcy or Sherry or call Sherry at (414) 476-9659.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO EARN MONEY FOR CORPS DUES, COSTUMES, ETC.? You can work at the Bradley Center in the concession stands to earn money for your account. Please contact Lynnette Vollmer at (414) 588- 6517 or Dennis Kaminski at (262) 895-9997 to volunteer. They will give you the dates/ times. Our first events are the following Admirals games:Sun. Nov. 13 - 5:00 p.m. game, Fri. Dec. 9 – 7:00 p.m. game, Sun. Dec. 18 – 5:00 p.m. game and the Marquette game on Thur. Dec. 22 – 8:00 p.m. If possible, please arrive 2 hours early.
