Put a Door Where You Didn’t Think You Could

There are many places through most houses where doors that slide rather than swing can provide space saving advantages. But genuine pocket doors that slide inside of walls can't always be installed, due to obstacles such as room configuration or costs. However, you still gain the advantages that pocket doors offer by using a unique hardware set from Johnson Hardware to install a wall mount door. Unlike a normal pocket door, a wall mount door is surface mounted outside the wall. Because it slides on a track, a wall mount door is ideal for locations where space required for a swinging door would be wasted. It only takes a moment to think of how many of these locations there are in typical households. The popular installations include kitchens, baths, closets, storage or utility rooms, garage entryways, playrooms and home offices. With imagination, you will come up with many more. The ease of operating wall mount doors also makes them suitable for homes where there are disabled residents. The Johnson 2610F Wall Mount Door Hardware makes installation an easy job. No close fitting is required, and the hardware can be readily adapted for particular installations. Virtually any door may be mounted because the hardware can support even solid core doors of up to 125 pounds. The heavy duty Series 200 Wall Mount Hardware can hold up to 400-pound doors. Several quality features ensure that wall mount doors installed with the Johnson Hardware set will operate smoothly. The aluminum track has a concave, one point hanger channel for an unobstructed glide. Double wheel ball bearing hangers with swivel design hold nylon wheels evenly on track and never need lubricating. Accessories include a converging door system for joining two door frames, doors pulls and privacy locks. The privacy locks fit standard pre-bored doors. You can install them without cutting the door and invalidating the manufacturer's warranty. The easy-to-install 2610F Series Wall Mount Door Hardware has everything you need to hang a sliding door, except the door itself. The set includes an extruded aluminum door track, precision-engineered wheel assemblies, steel door-hanger plates, rubber-bumper doorstops, and a floor-mounted door guide. Sizes are available for doors ranging from 2 ft. to 4 ft. wide, and weighing up to 125 lbs. The track accepts 1 3/8-in.-thick and 1 3/4-in.-thick doors. Start by fastening the aluminum track to the opening above the doorway. Note that you can mount the track to the existing door casings (moldings), or you can remove the casings and mount the track flush to the wall. Either way, the track must be perfectly level, and securely screwed to the header, studs or other solid framing inside the wall. Next, take apart the two-piece door guide and set its rear portion on the floor at the base of the doorway; screw it to the side jamb. Slip the two wheel assemblies into the door track, then screw the hanger plates to the top of the door. Position each plate 2 in. from the door edge. Raise the door to the track and slip the pivot pin on each wheel assembly into the corresponding slot in the hanger plates. Rotate the nylon tabs on the plates to lock the wheels to the plates. Now insert the front half of the door guide into the mating piece installed earlier. The guide will control the door as it slides, and prevent it from swinging away from the wall. Tighten a rubber-bumper doorstop to either end of the track to control the door’s length of travel. Use the included wrench to adjust the wheel assemblies, if necessary, to align the door level and plumb. Finish the installation by screwing a 3/8-in.-thick x 1 1/4-in.-wide wood strip (doorstop) to the head jamb to conceal the plate hangers.
