“Who Are You Becoming?” (Father’s Day) Pastor Jerry McQuay June 17, 2012

12-14 Yet, my brothers, I do not consider myself to have “arrived”, spiritually, nor do I consider myself already perfect. But I keep going on, grasping ever more firmly that purpose for which Christ grasped me. My brothers, I do not consider myself to have fully grasped it even now. But I do concentrate on this: I leave the past behind and with hands outstretched to whatever lies ahead I go straight for the goal—my reward the honour of being called by God in Christ. Phil 3:12-14 JB Phillips 1. God is not interested in your past! (not holding against you) . Enemy is accuser / condemner / tormenter . We often do his work for him (1Kings 17:18; Gen 42:21- 22) 2. God knows your present! And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.” Matt 3:17 NLT 3. God believes in your future! . As a husband Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Gen 2:24 ESV . As a leader Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas” (which means Peter). John 1:42 ESV . As a man of God When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 1Cor 13:11 ESV 11 About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. 12 For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food, 13 for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. 14 But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.
