PART 1. GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

A. The Connect Amplification system shall include all components to properly amplify voice and other audio sources such as Media PC’s, Projector/TV Audio, Ipods, and any other audio source input. Wall or ceiling mounted speakers, infrared sensor, microphone/transmitter(s), chargers for microphones, and power shall all be included as part of each Class Connect system.

B. Benefits can include but not limited to: 1. Test scores by an average of 7-10% 2. Improve student attention 3. Significant reduction in behavioral problems 4. Over 30% improvement in word recognition in all students 5. Reduces teacher stress & throat illness reducing absenteeism

1.2 APPLICATION

A. Connect amplification system should be installed in all classrooms within a school that require uniform distributed sound from all audio devices within that learning environment.

B. Multiple speaker options shall include 8” ceiling speakers with bridge and back box, 2x2 lay in ceiling speakers, and/or wall speakers. All speakers shall include the hardware for proper mounting.

C. Connect’s audio management device shall be fully interfaced to the existing or new intercom/paging system. The output of the intercom system shall directly interface to the Connect amplification system in the classroom. This integration shall give positive control when interfaced to the Class Connection Intercom System within the system as to cut off or duck all sources within the classroom when an intercom or page announcement is made from anywhere within the school. Any systems that do not directly interface with the existing or new intercom/paging system shall not be acceptable.

D. The intercom/paging system speakers have the option of being part of the speakers utilized for the in room Connect amplification system. They may be connected to receive audio from any of the in room sources or only receive audio from the intercom/paging system.

E. The Connect Amplification System shall be either in wall or shelf mounted anywhere within the classroom. The décor shall be of high quality with easy front or back connections to any audio source.

F. The infrared sensor shall be capable of being mounted directly to the speaker, thus utilizing CAT 5 wire for installation instead of COAX cable for this device. If another infrared sensor is required in the room, then that sensor shall utilize COAX cable for connectivity.

G. Only two (2) speakers are necessary for most classrooms with average classroom sound levels and of average size. Four (4) speakers may be utilized if the room is above ambient average classroom noise levels or larger in size.

1.3 DESCRIPTION

A. The Connect Amplification System shall include but not limited to the following components. 1. Connect infrared receiver/amplifier/controller with two external recharging cradles. 2. Four (4) Audio Inputs 3. Two (2) Mic Inputs 4. Two (2) volume controls (one for each mic) 5. Four (4) audio volume controls (one for each input) 6. 1.7 OWNER TRAINING

A. The contractor who installs and/or sells the system shall perform user training.

1.8 PERFORMANCE

A. The Classroom Amplification shall have two (2) microphone inputs. Each microphone input shall have a carrier detect indicator to verify that the input is active. Each input shall also have a volume level adjustment. B. The Classroom Amplification System shall have three (3) auxiliary inputs. Each input shall have a volume level adjustment.

C. The microphone inputs shall have programmable priorities to select either ducking of the auxiliary inputs or cut them off when the microphones are active.

D. The Classroom Amplification System shall connect to the Intercom/paging system. This integration shall allow the use of the Intercom/Paging speaker as an integral part of the Classroom Amplification System. Systems that don’t integrate with the Intercom/Paging system shall not be acceptable.

E. The microphone inputs shall have class of service programming as to allow ducking or cut off when an all call or emergency page is detected from the Intercom/Paging system.

F. The microphone inputs shall have a class of service programming as to allow ducking or cut off when an intercom page is detected from the Intercom/Paging system. The system shall also have dual connections for the paging system speakers as to allow one or both Classroom Amplification speakers to engage during an intercom page.

G. The Classroom Amplification System shall have a low level output to connect to Valcom self amplified speakers or other audio equipment if needed. This output shall have a volume control.

H. The Classroom Amplification System shall have an amplified output to connect to Valcom forty-five (45) ohm speakers. This output shall have a volume control.

I. Classroom Amplification System shall include two wireless microphones with chargers and an IR sensor. J. The Classroom Amplification System shall either be shelf or in- wall mounted.

K. The Connect system shall have an emergency cut-off input that when interfaced to the fire alarm relay contact output shall turn SILENCE all audio devices within the room in the event of a fire as to help lower the overall decibels levels to help the students and staff hear the audible fire alarm tones/instructions within that room.

L. The master output volume control shall control all four (4) audio input sources. Each audio input shall also have a separate input level volume control as to adjust the gain for each independent audio source. The master volume control shall not effect the microphone level output.
