Kishor C. Shah (Chairman) (630) 671-0001 On November 23, 2003, the JSMC held the biennial election for the Narendra K. Khandwala positions of two trustees and Executive Committees. Approximately (847) 985-6858 1006 members participated in the election process. Our election Dr. Devendra U. Shah judges and volunteers did an excellent job of conducting this (847) 358-8578 election. Because of the judge’s well-managed plan, computerized Samprati J. Vice President: More than 400 people and many kids enjoyed Garba and Dinner Arvind M. Shah program organized by JYFC. Many prizes were given for different (847) 699-7778 age groups in categories such as Best Dandia, Best Garba, Best Dress and short competition round. We like to thank all the Secretary: judges who assisted in difficult task of judging, Sponsors who Ajay C. Young Jain of America (YJA) Midwest Regional Conference November 2003

Jai Jinendra, During the Thanksgiving weekend (November 27 – November 30, 2003), the YJA Midwest Regional Conference was held at the Jain Temple in Bartlett. The four-day weekend turned out to be a fun-filled, learning experience about our life as Jain youth, while practicing Ahimsa in the today’s world. There were attendees from across the Midwest region—Wisconsin, Michigan, Indiana, Chicago land area, and southern Illinois.

The conference is started on Thursday with dinner and icebreakers. Friday and Saturday, we spent in numerous discussions, lectures, Jain games, and much reflection upon how to reduce or curb Ahimsa in our lives as Jain youth. The lecturers included Dr. Chandrakant Shah with Meditation and Self-Realization, Jyotindra Doshi with Ahimsa and Inner Happiness, Ushma Shah with Ahimsa – An Overview, and Ajay Dagli with Six Principles and Ahimsa. All discussions were led by Chirag Shah and Shibani Shah. In addition to listening to various presentations, we also engaged in deep meditation techniques and yoga. Jain games included Jain Jeopardy, Jain Pictionary, and Jingo – a variation on Bingo. We also went for ice-skating over the course of the weekend, and spent time getting to know each others. At the end of the weekend, we parted over Sunday brunch. Everyone took home a T-shirt signed by the other attendees, some Jain religious books, and a lifetime of memories.

We would like to thank Niranjan Shah (President of Jain Society of Chicago) for inviting all of us to stay at his home during the conference. He was very generous and many thanks to him for making us all feel at home. All meals were strictly Jain and vegetarian. Thanks to Ami Vora and Parinda Shah for transportation of all the participants. Special thanks to Haresh and Nutan Shah for preparing very tasty lunches & dinners throughout the conference and Manju J. Doshi for delicious dessert.
