Kelly has been teaching Voice, Dance, Musical Theatre, and Dialect for more than 20 years and has been directing the musical here for over ten years. The musical director will be Sarah Bordenet who works with Kelly Willis at the Redmond Academy of Theatre Arts.

Please note that there is a cost to participate in this production--$125 for on-stage participants, $40 for production team members. Scholarships are available.

There are on-stage parts for up to 50 7th & 8th grade students. Spots will be filled on a first-come first-served basis, with spots for 6th graders as space allows. Applications will be accepted on October 30th. Students who submit an application along with payment and/or scholarship request on Monday October 30th, will be guaranteed a part in the show.

Auditions and callbacks will be held November 6th – November 9th to assign students to specific roles (see details on the next page). Rehearsals will be after school, from 2:30 – 5:00 every day except where noted, and Wednesday rehearsals will start at 1:00. All rehearsals are at Redmond Middle School except for tech week (January 30th until closing) which will be at Redmond High School. A specific schedule will be made available at the beginning of each week during the rehearsal period.

We will have a Production Team for up to 20 students for those interested in working behind the scenes.

Please read through all of the information with your parents before deciding if this commitment is right for you. Although the rehearsal schedule may appear long, it is important that you can attend all rehearsals. Limited conflicts are allowed during the rehearsal period, however no conflicts are allowed from January 19th until closing. There is also a commitment from parents to volunteer at least 5 hours of time, plus join a committee, to help with the production.

For questions please contact the producer: Emily Papel [email protected] or 425-894-1200.

Applications: Applications are available on October 26th at the parent meeting and on the PTSA website. They will be accepted on October 30th in the box at the Attendance Office. Deadline: End of Day, Monday October 30th. Cost Fee for all On-Stage participants is $125 - payable to RMS PTSA Fee for all Production Team participants is $40 – payable to RMS PTSA Fee must be turned in with the application to ensure a spot. Fee is non-refundable after a student has attended callbacks. Scholarships We do not turn any student away because of an inability to pay. If you wish to request a full or partial scholarship, please indicate this on your application. Requesting a scholarship will not have any effect on your eligibility for roles in the show. Only the parent producer and a PTSA board representative will know which students have requested a scholarship. Time Please consider this commitment before you submit an application. The theater Commitment project does conflict with 2nd quarter sports as well as Honor Band, Orchestra and Choir. These may impact your participation. The theater project begins the week of November 6th and continues through February 3rd. Rehearsals will generally be Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 2:30 – 5:00, and Wednesdays 1:00 – 5:00. All students will not be required to attend each rehearsal, depending on their part. More specifics will be provided once the show is cast. All rehearsals are at Redmond Middle School with the exception of the final week which will be at the Redmond High School Performing Arts Center. There will be three evening performances: February 1st, 2nd & 3rd and one matinee Saturday the 3rd, all at the Redmond High School PAC. Students will report to the theater 2 hours prior to show time on performance nights. Auditions Auditions for specific parts will take place in small half-hour groups on November 6th and 7th. There will be a dance callback on November 8th. Callbacks (as needed) will be scheduled on November 9th from 2:30 to 4:00 pm. Casting will be announced on November 13th before the read-through 2:30 to 5:00.

Therefore, a student’s commitment during the first week will be to attend an audition (half an hour sometime on November 6th & 7th), the dance callback (1:00-3:00 on November 8th), some or all of the acting callback (2:30 – 4:00 on November 9th) and the read-through (2:30 – 5:00 on November 13th).

Students must come to the audition with their completed audition form (plus a few other forms) and have paid their registration fee or they will not be allowed to audition. The audition form is different from the application form at the end of this packet; it will be available at the parent meeting on October 26th, as well as on the PTSA website. Questions about auditions can be addressed at the parent meeting, or contact the producer: Emily Papel [email protected]

During the audition process each student will need to have a memorized monologue or poem of one minute or less which has to be acted out (no reading from a book), and ready to sing a verse and chorus from a song of their choice (a capella and less than one minute; Broadway songs preferred but not required). If they don’t have a song prepared they will be asked to sing Happy Birthday. Production Production gives those students that are not interested in being on stage a chance to Team learn about all of the support work that is required to pull off a great production. They will meet generally once a week and must be at rehearsal for the entire time during tech week & performances. Students can work on the sets, props, costumes, makeup, etc as well as help backstage during performances. Production may be called to Redmond High School on Sunday, January 28th for all or part of Load-In and Sound prep. Stage Stage manager is a special production role. The stage manager attends rehearsals and Manager assists the director as needed. In addition, during the run of the show, the stage manager “calls” the show, reading cues from the sound booth to guide the other tech workers. The show can have one stage manager and also an assistant stage manager, which provides an opportunity to train to be stage manager in future years. Parent We would like to have the students do as much of the work as possible. That being Requirements said, we still need parent support to help make the production a success. We will have a mandatory parent meeting on October 26th 7:00 – 9:00 in the RMS Library. We require at least 6 chaperoning hours per family for each child, plus join a production committee. We need parents to chaperone during each rehearsal and performance, as well as help in the following areas: publicity, poster design, ticket sales, programs, chaperone coordination, sets, props, costumes, makeup, arranging photos/video, concessions, Star Gram sales, and organizing the cast party. There are choices that can accommodate both working and stay at home parents. Redmond Middle School PTSA “Guys and Dolls Jr.”
