Subject: New Teacher Workshop
New Teacher Academy for Health Careers Education teachers (Conf No. 793) will be held Tuesday through Thursday, July 21-23, 2015. We will meet at the Oklahoma Department of CareerTech Education offices in Stillwater, in the Tuttle Seminar Center. The sessions will run from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the first day and 8:00 a.m. to approximately 4:30 p.m. on the second and third day.
New Teacher Workshop activities are designed to introduce you to the CareerTech system and provide the fundamentals needed to begin your teaching career. We have arranged for some excellent HCE and CareerTech teachers to facilitate most of the program, for real-world relevancy.
Following this academy, there will be other professional development opportunities during Summer Conference, August 3- 4, 2015 (Monday and Tuesday), in Tulsa, in addition to the following dates:
September 23, 2015, Tulsa Tech Owasso campus November 4, 2015, Tulsa Tech Owasso campus January 28, 2016, location to be determined
Registration
Because registration fees include food/beverage items, they cannot be refunded unless cancellation is made online at least seven days prior to the event. If you have any special needs for attending this activity, please let us know. The registration fee is $50. See attached complex map. Enter the parking lot on Seventh Avenue and the Main Entrance indicated on the map. The switchboard operator can direct you to the Tuttle Seminar Center.

Attendance Policy
Attendance at the New Teacher Academy is mandatory for all new CareerTech teachers. Lara Skaggs, the HCE State Program Administrator, must approve any absences in writing. If you have any questions as to whether your attendance is required at this event, please contact Lara at [email protected] . The instructor will be expected to attend New Teacher Academy the following July.
Meals
Lunch and a light snack in the afternoon for each day are included in your registration fee. Most hotels provide a substantial free breakfast to their guests and we encourage you to take full advantage of the free breakfasts. In an effort to keep the registration fee as low as possible we will be providing drinks only in the mornings and at lunch consisting of coffee, ice tea, and water. If you wish additional items, please bring those with you. Your registration fee includes lunch each day as follows:
Tuesday: Mexican Buffet 1 (Includes chicken enchilada casserole, ground beef tacos
Wednesday: Chicken Dinner (Including 2 entrees, sides, salad, roll)
Thursday: Italian Smorgasbord (Includes vegetables, bread)
Hotel Reservations
You are responsible for making your own reservation and paying your lodging charges. Stillwater Convention and Visitor’s Bureau has a site listing local lodging: http://www.visitstillwater.org/visitors/lodging/ Agency employees who live outside Stillwater recommend the Residence Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Fairfield Inn, and the Best Western Plus Cimarron Hotel and Suites. Be sure to check for continental breakfast offerings as breakfast will not be served during our meeting.
Things to Do to Prepare for the Workshop
Complete and submit a Statement of Qualifications Form. The form is located at http://www.okcareertech.org/educators/health-careers-education/new-hce-educators
Please attach the following to the Statement of Qualifications when you mail it in: o copy of your college transcripts o copy of professional credentials o copy of any Oklahoma teacher certificate o electronic photo in jpg format - head shot o current e-mail address at school and at home

If you have already submitted the above documents to the HCE division office, we thank you for your assistance.
Bring your school and program handbook to the workshop or have digital access. Bring charged tablet or laptop for daily activities. Bring light jacket or sweater or layer clothing to accommodate personal temperature needs.
