You have laid your hand upon me, alleluia. Too wonderful for me, this knowledge, alleluia, alleluia. Responsorial Psalm Psalm 118 This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice in it and be glad. Give praise to the Lord, for he is good; his mercy endures forever. Let the house of Israel say, “His mercy endures forever.” “The Lord’s right hand has done mighty deeds; his right hand is exalted. The Lord’s right hand has done mighty deeds.” I shall not die, I shall live and recount the deeds of the Lord. The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. Byh the Lord has this been done, a marvel in our eyes.

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice in it and be glad. Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia. Christ, our Paschal Lamb, has been sacrificed; let us, therefore, celebrate the festival in the Lord. Alleluia. Communion Antiphon Christ our Passover has been sacrificed, alleluia; therefore let us keep the feast with the unleavened bread of purity and truth, Alleluia. It is the inauguration of the Gentile mission. At God’s instigation Peter receives the Roman centurion Cornelius and his household into the Christian community. Significantly, Cornelius does not have to become a Jew first and only then a Christian, At the same time, Luke links this turning point with the Spirit-filled Jesus in his inaugural sermon in Nazareth (see Lk 4:14, 18)). The proclamation of the Good News (see Is 52:7) and anointing with the Spirit (see Is 61:1) now touch the pagan Cornelius. Jesus’ reference to the miracles of Elijah and Elisha (Lk 4:25-27) is certainly not unwarranted. Peter’s speech is also an example of the primitive Christian kergyma or proclamation. Vv.37-39 provide a resume of Jesus’ ministry. V.40 then adds an insight into the mystery of Jesus. The proclamation, here as elsewhere (see Acts 2:23-24; 4:10), speaks of the killing of Jesus as an act which God makes good by raising him up. God therefore, transforms the killing of Jesus into an act by which believers would gain. It is to this paradox that Peter and certain others testify. God’s work was transformed in the resurrection of Jesus. Second Reading (Colossians 3 : 1 - 4) The author maintains that through baptism the Christian shares in the experience of Christ. As a result, there is the admonition for the Colossians to be concerned with genuine existence in Christ and not mere external observances (see 2:16-17). The author notes that the Colossians are always tempted to return to their former way of life (‘things of earth’). However, since they died in and with Christ, their life now continues to be bound up with him and they can look forward to future glory with him. Gospel (John 20 : 1 - 9) John’s account of the empty tomb consists of two stories: (1) Mary Magdalene’s arrival and subsequent report and (2) the arrival of Peter and the Beloved Disciple, whose reactions differ markedly. These stories have different layers. The first originally spoke of the women, not just Mary (note ‘we’ in v.2). The second originally spoke of Peter and an unnamed disciple who was later changed to the Beloved Disciple (contrast v. 8 where the Beloved Disciple believes with v. 9 where ‘they did not understand’). For John, the Beloved Disciple explains the meaning of the empty tomb. The burial clothes pointed to the resurrection of Jesus: ‘He saw and believed.’ In contrast to Peter, he comes to faith. For John, therefore, the Beloved Disciple becomes the model to be followed. His love for Jesus has led him to believe the mystery of Jesus. Death could not be the Father’s last gesture.
