Element Presentations Requirements Sheet

Element Presentation: Part A: Element Tile 1. Using the Internet or other resources available in the library thoroughly research your element. Be sure to find all of the information listed in the Requirements section below. 2. Create an 11" x 11" inch Element Tile. Be Creative! Be sure to check the Requirements section below before you begin. All of the required items must be included on your Element Tile.

Part B: PowerPoint Presentation

1. You will create a PowerPoint presentation about your element. Be sure to check the Requirements section below before you begin. Part C: Oral Report 1. You will give at least a 2 minute Oral Report about your element. You will display the Element Tile that you made and use your PowerPoint presentation during your report. Be sure that all of the items listed in the requirements section below are included during your report. Remember! The most important part of an Oral Report is YOU, not how "fancy" you make your PowerPoint presentation. Be sure to prepare your presentation by rehearsing and practicing.

“ELEMENT PRESENTATIONS” REQUIREMENTS SHEET

ELEMENT TILE – Be sure to include all of the following on your tile.

Size = 11”x11” ……………… Mandatory – Not accepted if smaller or larger

1. Element Symbol - Middle 3” tall 1 point 2. Element Name – small under symbol 1 pt. 3. Atomic Number – upper left 1 pt. 4. Atomic Mass – upper right 1 pt. 5. Is it a solid, liquid or gas? 2 pts. 6. Is it a metal, nonmetal or metalloid? 2 pts. 7. Family Name or Rare Earth Element Series 2 pts. 8. Who discovered it? When discovered? 6 pts. 9. How is it used? (must have 2) 6 pts. 10. Physical, chemical Properties or unusual facts (must have 3) 6 pts.

Total of 28 POINTS The following points will be based on the criteria below:

 Neatness (show you care about your work) 2 pts.  Legible (must be able to read it!) 2 pts.  Color (use of art supplies, materials) 2 pts.  Pictures / Graphics (must have 2) 2 pts.  WOW!! (Impress me with your creativity) 4 pts. Total of 12 POINTS

TOTAL- Element Tile= 40 points

POWERPOINT PRESENTATION – Be sure to include the following:(each is worth 5 pts)

 Must have at least 6 slides (no more than 8)  All requirements for the Element Tile should be included in your PowerPoint presentation. (Be able to provide detail and elaborate on each item)  Make good use of graphics and animation (Don’t go wild. Including too many sounds or special effects can be distracting to the audience.)  Be careful with all of the computer equipment. Make sure your Internet search includes appropriate sites.

ORAL REPORT - Be sure to include the following: (each is worth 5 pts)

 When presenting be sure to speak toward the audience not the TV or computer.  Speak up! Talk loud enough for the people in the back of the room to hear you.  Your presentation should be at least 2 minutes in length. Don’t read what is on the screen. (The audience can do that.) Explain and elaborate. Be an expert on your element. Be able to answer questions.
