What’s Hot in Science - 8 th grade
Goal: Sometimes we are so wrapped up in school that we forget science is occurring in the world around us everyday. The goal of this assignment is to find current events in the news on the topics we are studying in class and write a summary about them to share with the class.
There will be no late assignments accepted for What’s Hot because we will be using the articles to facilitate classroom discussions that will take place on the required due date.
Points to remember: The article must be at least 3 paragraphs in length. Articles must be current (only up to six months old). It must be related to the current unit we are studying. Make sure your article comes from a reputable source! No plagiarism!
Written Summary Requirements: Your article summary needs to be typed using complete sentences and be no more than page in length. This assignment is worth 15 pts. Your written summary needs to include the following topics to earn full credit: The title of the article (1pt) The date of the article (1pt) The source of the article - web address or publication (1pts) The area of science the article falls under (1pt) A detailed summary of what the article talks about (6pts) A few sentences explaining why this article is important in today’s world (3pts) The original printed article stapled behind your written summary highlighting important information. (2pts)
