November 2013 NAMI Membership Manager Insider Is Sent on the Third Monday of Each Month

November 2013 NAMI Membership Manager Insider is sent on the third Monday of each month to membership staff, all NAMI State Organizations and NAMI Affiliates, executive directors, state presidents and the NAMI board. If you know anyone who should be receiving this communication, please email their name, email address, position and affiliate. In this Issue:  Individual Demographic Information  Coming Soon: Navigation Changes  NAMI 360 Tips  Toolkit Available to Help Area Campus Students  Future Updates to the “Find Your Local NAMI” Pages  Direct Deposits Available for Membership Dues  NAMI 360 Training Schedule  Discuss What You’ve Read with the Information Services Team

Individual Demographic Information Before the end of the year, individual NAMI.org account users will see a slightly different page when viewing their “myInformation” section of their account which lists their contact information. We will be highlighting our demographics form on their NAMI.org profiles in an attempt to gather more data in the demographics fields. These fields help all NAMI offices have a better idea of who makes up our NAMI community, which also allows us to create content and provide support relevant to all our members. It also provides valuable data that can be used when applying for grants. The demographics fields will remain optional as they have always been. While it is not currently possible for NAMI State Organizations and NAMI Affiliates to generate a report of demographic information in NAMI 360, we will be working to make that available in early 2014. If you have any suggestions for what you would like to see in a demographics report, please use the Suggestions area of the NAMI 360 Help Site.

Coming Soon: Navigation Changes In order to create a more user-friendly experience for NAMI State Organizations and NAMI Affiliates when updating an individual’s profile in NAMI 360, we are going to be moving some of the navigation links. Rather than having a long list of blue links in the top right corner of an individual’s profile, NAMI 360 users will soon see those links moved down into the profile itself. This way, the “Add new address” link will be right next to the current address information and so on for all the different sections of the profile. We will be sure to keep all NAMI 360 users updated as we make any other changes in the system navigation. The changes to the individual profiles will happen before the end of the year, and we will post a reminder on the NAMI 360 home page when they are complete. NAMI 360 Tips Now that NAMI 360 has been available for over a year, here are some helpful reminders that will help you make the most out of this system: NAMI State Organization users: It is important for you to only use the “Renew” link on an individual’s profile if you intend to renew their membership with that particular NAMI Affiliate. If a member has a membership with NAMI Affiliate One on their profile but has paid for a membership with NAMI Affiliate Two, you should use the “Add New Membership” link on the member’s profile page to add a new membership with NAMI Affiliate Two to their record. In order to keep clean records, please do not overwrite the name on one record with someone else’s name. This can create a duplicate in the database or you could lose someone’s information completely. If you search for someone using the tips above but do not find them in your data, you can create a new record for that individual. Please check future newsletters for more tips on using NAMI 360!

Toolkit Available to Help Area Campus Students Do you have a college campus in your community? Have you considered starting a NAMI on Campus club to help to reach out to those college students impacted by mental illness? NAMI’s Child and Adolescent Action Center (CAAC) has recently compiled a toolkit of resources for college students to raise mental health awareness on campus. The toolkit includes a PowerPoint, step-by-step presentation guide, fact sheets, promotional resources and more. It is currently available online. If you have any questions about the toolkit, you can contact Emily Cepla, Program Manager for the CAAC, at [email protected]. If you are interested in learning about NAMI on Campus clubs, please visit www.nami.org/namioncampus or email us at [email protected].

Future Updates to the “Find Your Local NAMI” Pages A message from NAMI’s Web Migration Core Team Recently, NAMI sent out an update about some changes happening to NAMI.org as we prepare to migrate to a new website platform. In that email, we mentioned that eventually NAMI 360 users will be able to include additional information on your NAMI State Organization or NAMI Affiliate’s page in the “Find Your Local NAMI” section of the website. Future additions will include the ability to add your logo, having links to your social media channels, a “Welcome and Announcements” section, links to online membership and more. This information will be managed through the “Edit State/Affiliate Profile” section of NAMI 360. These changes are expected to happen sometime next year. At that point, we will provide additional training on how to use these new fields. If you have any questions about the changes happening on NAMI.org, you can contact NAMI’s Chief Information Officer, Jean-Michel Texier ([email protected]) or NAMI’s National Director of Communications, Katrina Gay ([email protected]).

Reminder: Direct Deposits Available for Membership Dues If you are currently receiving your portion of membership dues through your NAMI State Organization, you can send us your bank account information in order to receive those monthly payments as direct deposits to your account. You only need to fill out our authorization form and send it to NAMI for us to send you your portion of membership dues each month directly. If you have questions about the monthly payments or for a copy of the form, please contact us at [email protected].

NAMI 360 Training Schedule NAMI 360 training began in late May 2012, and we have continued to hold multiple trainings each month since then. Training is mandatory in order to use the system. Please note: Only attendees who were pre-approved by their NAMI State Organization or NAMI Affiliate President or Executive Director will receive access to the system after the training. If multiple people at one office want to be trained, they will all need to register separately even if they are all interested in attending the same training in order to receive access.
