The Bridge Connection Term 2 2017

Principal: Mrs Cheryl-Lea Jackson 4667 3174 www.murrbridss.eq.edu.au WELCOME BACK We had a dramatic end to Term 1. Thank you to all for making their children’s safety a priority. There were over 1,000 schools closed due to cyclone Debbie’s influence in Queensland. Thank you also to the parents who have paid their book levy. I endeavoured to write this newsletter at the end of Term 1 but circumstances did not permit that. I started Term 2 again endeavouring to complete this newsletter in a timely manner. Again an issue arose – this time Microsoft decided to freeze with the newsletter nearly completed. So once again I am typing hoping all goes well. TERM 2

Traditionally this term is one that is all about athletics as we prepare ourselves for our sports carnivals. We will be endeavouring to develop each child’s stamina and skills in this area. This year we should be able to have a junior relay team (all going well and no sickness). All students will get the opportunity to run in their age race with the older students also doing field events. TAKE HOME READERS Some students have been selected to participate in our Take Home Reader Program. The folders will go home next Monday and need to be returned on the Tuesday with the book read and the activity completed. Parents can assist with reading the questions and help the child write the answer. We would like parents to discuss the book with their child but not provide the answers. All the contents of the folder need to be returned on the Tuesday. ANZAC DAY CEREMONY Thanks go to Al Cutmore for once again attending our service. Congratulations to Lily Grayson being our School Captain for 2017. CARE OF SCHOOL PROPERTY

As you would be aware school has limited funds from which we create a budget that covers a variety of things from wages to resources, maintenance to library books and computers. It is important that we all look after school property so our funds can stretch as far as possible. We therefore need to make sure items that go home are returned in a like state so they can be reused. We have a large collection of library books and it is important that these are cared for in a waterproof, sealable take-home bag when being borrowed. If a book is damaged please let school know and we will see if it useable or requires payment to replace it. NEWSLETTER Mrs Pickering looks after our school’s web page. We try to keep pictures and information up to date. Just a reminder that the newsletter is available on this site along with various other documents. AUDIT

The school is being audited towards the end of May. Lesley Vogan and James Morley will be conducting the full school review. They would appreciate talking to parents, staff and students about our school. TANNYMOREL STATE SCHOOL Tanny School is joining us mid-session on Thursdays. They are combing with us in our Q.C.W.A. International Day so are preparing for this occasion with us on Thursdays. An added bonus is that they are adding to our intake of food with their cooking. As part of our newsletter we are sending home Parenting Ideas and Insights that may assist you with your children. Michael Grose, the Director of Parenting Ideas, is the author of these. He is one of Australia’s leading parenting educators. He’s the author of 10 books for parents including Thriving! and the best-selling Why First Borns Rule the World and Last Borns Want to Change It, and his latest release Spoonfed Generation: How to raise independent children. Michael regularly appears in the media throughout Australia in programs including The Project, The Today Show and ABC radio. He was recognised for his contribution to parenting and education when he was elevated to the PSA Speaker Hall of Fame in 2013. He is also a past winner of the PSA Australian Educator of the Year award. Michael was the first person to conduct a parenting seminar to Federal politicians in Parliament House Canberra. He’s also the parent of three children who have all successfully flown the parenting nest. We hope that the information we send to you will be useful in both yours and your children’s lives. Don’t forget we have several books also available for parents to borrow. EXCURSION We have booked an excursion to the Empire Theatre in Toowoomba for Wednesday 14 June to see Mr. Stink. We will then be going to play Ten Pin Bowling after lunch. This covers our cultural, drama and sport areas of our school curriculum and presents it in an interesting manner. Further information will go home as the date draws closer.
