HG4001 review British Quad Gun Tractor with 25 pdr. Gun, 7th Armoured Division Normandy (France) June 1944

This model doesn’t come with the usual Hobby Master clear plastic cover that sits over the model and base. The model comes in a showcase box sitting on a black plastic base. Tampoed on the base in white letters is the same information that is the header for this review. The printing is very clear and well placed and a great asset when your collection grows and you need a little assistance jogging the old memory.

The model comes in three pieces, tractor, ammo limber and gun. I have to tell you that I don’t think there is as much as 5% plastic total in the three pieces. All three pieces come with rubber wheels that roll and show a tread. All three pieces can actually be hooked together and displayed like a train.

The tractor is amazing. If you turn it over Hobby Master even added the exhaust, drive train and transfer cases. The detail underneath is just as terrific as what you see when the Quad is sitting on its wheels. There is a spare tire mounted on the back roof of the Quad. As well there is a simulated canvas cover on the roof portion that can be left open on the real machine. They have added the blackout light, towing clevises and the markings are crisp and clear. The smallest print is even readable it is that well done.

The glass windows are nice clear plastic with the wiper blades molded into the windshield. Hobby Master has added the grille guard and mirrors and the hatch on the roof. This piece is extremely well done.

The limber also is almost completely made of metal. The detail is excellent with rivets visible where the metal plates would join together. Even the tow- bar is metal.

The 25 pdr. terrific. I think the only plastic on this is the shield with the shovel and cable molded in. These two pieces are not just a blob or poorly colored and hard to distinguish. They actually look like someone shrank the real things. The gun itself can pivot up and down and comes with a firing platform fixed to the bottom of the gun carriage. The gun and carriage are extremely well formed with very good detail. You’ll find what I assume is supposed to be some items wrapped in canvas that sits on the gun carriage as illustrated in the photos on my site. http://hobbymastercollector.com/HG4001QuadTractor7thArmoured.html

I don’t know what else to tell you about this model except WOW!! If you were hoping for a good model that isn’t of the run of the mill then you definitely won’t be disappointed. I can’t imagine anyone that buys this model being disappointed.
