RE: Parent Plan for Early Dismissal for the 2012-2013 School Year

Schools may close early for conditions such as inclement weather or hazardous road conditions. As soon as the decision to close the building has been made, announcements will be aired over the radio, television and the school communication system.

The school must know what the plans are for your child(ren) in the event of an early closing. You will also need to discuss the plan thoroughly with your child(ren) to prevent any confusion.

Please do not count on telephone calls being made either by your child or the office. During an emergency, it is likely that phone lines will not be operating properly, particularly if there is power failure.

Please complete the form below for our records. If the plan changes during the year, please discuss it with your child(ren) and notify the classroom teacher and the office at 301-599-2490.

RE: Relocation Site

Each school has developed a plan to relocated our students to another building in emergency situations only (i.e., power failure, water shortage, broken pipes, etc.) In the event of such an emergency, students will walk or be picked up from Rosaryville Elementary School in a normal manner and transported to Frederick Douglas H.S. At the end of the day, students will be returned to our building, allowing us to follow the regular dismissal and transportation pattern.

We are requesting that you provide your home, work, and emergency telephone numbers on the lower part of this form which will be taken with us to the relocation site.

If in the event of an emergency situation, parents will not be able to reach us at Rosaryville Elementary School, but may call the Area 1 Office at (301) 372-3431.

RE: Guidelines for Observing Students During Classroom Instruction Time

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

We are glad that you have chosen to observe you child’s class and hope that you will further consider volunteering some of your time to assist in your child’s classroom during the year.

Because we are a public school entrusted with the care and education of many children, there are specific guidelines that we must ask you to adhere if you wish to observe your child during instructional time. If you have any questions regarding these guidelines, you may make an appointment to speak with the Principal. Please note the following guidelines:

1. All Parent(s)/Guardian(s) must first sign in to the Main Office and obtain a Visitor’s Badge. 2. Go to the Parent Liaison’s Office to receive a Classroom Observation Form. 3. Proceed to your child’s classroom for observation and ask the Teacher where to sit in the classroom so that you are able to clearly observe your child without sitting next to or in close proximity to your child. 4. Please refrain from correcting or interacting with any other students particularly in matters concerning behavior. Just as you would not wish an unknown individual interacting with your child, we must guarantee the safety and security of all children. 5. Please refrain from correcting or interacting with the teacher regarding classroom management. Management is the responsibility of the classroom teacher and you are free to discuss issues with the teacher during a private discussion at the teacher’s discretion so as to not disrupt class instruction. 6. Please do not attempt to have a conference with the teacher regarding your observations. Please call or leave a note in the office requesting a conference with the teacher. 7. When observing your student be sure to observe the following areas that often interfere with student achievement:  Organization, Attentiveness, Self Control and Respect  Following Directions and Completing Assignments  Participation and Having Appropriate Materials

Thank you in advance for your cooperation! Regards,

Rhonda B. Green Principal

RE: Uniform Violation Policy for the 2012-2013

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):

The Rosaryville Elementary School official mandatory uniform is to be worn by students each day. Any “dress –down” days will be announced ahead of time. The uniform on Spirit Fridays will be a Rosaryville tee shirt and jeans (without designs). Spirit Friday is the last Friday of every month. It is the responsibility of each teacher to issue to student(s) a violation form when student are not in compliance with the uniform policy.

Listed are the specific steps to be taken and the penalty for consistent violations:

 First violation - the student’s teacher completes the Violation Referral form and contacts the parents/guardians (form sent home) and notifies the principal by sending the referral form to the office. The student will be given a uniform to wear (if available).  Second violation – the student’s teacher completes the referral form and contacts the parent by phone and notifies the principal by sending the referral to the office. The student will be given a uniform to wear.  Third violation – the student’s teacher completes the referral form and sends the student to the office so that the principal may contact the parents/guardians by telephone and in writing. The student will be given a uniform to wear and recess will be taken. Students in grade six will have lunch detention.  Fourth violation – This will be deemed as persistent disobedience or insubordination and will be dealt with in accordance to the Code of Student Conduct

Parents/Guardians can voluntarily have their child(ren) reassigned to another school by completing an Application for Exemption from Mandatory School Uniform Program.

I have read and reviewed with my child the Uniform Violation Policy.
