An ASUCD Senate Resolution to continue to support the Student Alumni Association in its efforts to implement an optional quarterly membership fee payment system.

WHEREAS, the Student Alumni Association in conjunction with its student arm, the Student Alumni Association program, is the primary campus vehicle for student/alumni engagement and as such, dedicates 25% of its time and resources to student services including, but not limited to, career networking, award ceremonies, scholarship fundraising, leadership and mentoring; and,

WHEREAS, the Cal Aggie Alumni Association raises funds for its services through membership dues; and,

WHEREAS, those choosing to pay the full amount of membership dues are entitled to a lifetime membership in the Cal Aggie Alumni Association; and,

WHEREAS, it is clear that the Cal Aggie Alumni Association is an indispensable resource for students and alumni alike, as over 32,000 students and alumni are members and many credit the Cal Aggie Alumni Association in conjunction with the Student Alumni Association as their first opportunity to gain real leadership and career experience.

THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED THAT, the Associated Students, University of California, Davis (ASUCD) the Senate of the Associated Students of the University of California, Davis (ASUCD) supports the creation of an opt-in fee payment option to be billed quarterly to the student account of all students that would allow for quarterly payments towards a lifetime membership with the Cal Aggie Alumni Association. The ASUCD Senate acknowledges that collection of the optional SAA fee does not constitute sponsorship or endorsement of a Registered Student Organization (RSO) by the University; and,

THEREFORE LET IT BE FURTHER RESOLVED THAT, the Student Alumni Association and Center for Student Involvement have decided that in order to become an RSO, the Student Alumni Association must:  Use the name Student Alumni Association rather than Cal Aggie Student Alumni Association.  Maintain a distinct and separate identity from CAAA in public, print and promotions and on websites. A link to SAA may appear on the CAAA website but SAA may not be listed as a program of CAAA.  Approve group activities, programs, financial expenditures and the election of officers are decided by student members of SAA.  Vote each quarter on whether it approves the release of the voluntary student fees collected to the Cal Aggie Alumni Association, in order for those fees to be released. This will allow the fees to go directly to CAAA rather than the SAA agency account in order to provide appropriate accounting controls for these funds.

THEREFORE LET IT BE FINALLY RESOLVED THAT, copies of this resolution shall be sent to Linda Katehi Chancellor of UC Davis; Adela de la Torre, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs; Milton Lang, Associate Vice Chancellor of Student Life, Campus Community and Retention Services; Anne Myler, Director of the Senate Resolution #1 Page 2 Center for Student Involvement; Shaun Keister, Vice Chancellor of Development and Alumni Relations; and Richard Engel, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Alumni Relations.
