Position: Biology Lab Assistant Location: LaGrange Campus Department: Academic Affairs Reports to: Associate Dean, School of Arts and Sciences FLSA Designation: Part Time Nature of Duties: Under general supervision prepares and dismantles biology and chemistry labs, laboratory maintenance and laboratory safety. Coordinates the preparation, assembling, and cleaning of materials and equipment used in the laboratory activities to science courses. Maintains cultures of various biological organisms and prepares transfers of bacteria for Microbiology labs. Takes periodic inventory of equipment and supplies. Requisitions and maintains an adequate supply of materials through the senior science instructor. Assists in performing routine maintenance and cleaning of science equipment, (i.e., microscopes, balances, autoclave, etc.). Prepares solutions and provides input to laboratory activities. Requests and maintains supplies and equipment. Requires strong computer skills, communication skills, and ability to interact effectively with a diverse student population. Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Position may require day/evening/distance learning classes and activities.

Minimum Qualifications: (candidates must meet all minimum qualifications to be considered)  Successful completion of at least one of the following sequence of classes a minimum grade of “B: in the lab portion of the course: o Anatomy & Physiology I (Lecture/Lab), Anatomy & Physiology II (Lecture/Lab), Microbiology (Lecture/Lab) o Chemistry I (Lecture/Lab), Chemistry II (Lecture/Lab)

Preferred Qualifications:  Bachelor’s in General Biology, Anatomy/Physiology, Microbiology, or other natural sciences.  Science Lab experience

 Basic skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point)
