SOFTBALL LEAGUE Sunday- Game Schedule Fall 2008

IF, Oh yes it did rain and ….. yet there were some teams/players that decided not to get into their cars and proceed to the field as per rule # 9 which states

“If there is any doubt as to whether a field is too wet to be played on, both teams are to report to their assigned field with enough players (eight) to begin the single or doubleheader contest at least 20 minutes prior to the scheduled game start, as per the schedule prepared by the league director. The umpires assigned to the game (s) will determine if the field is playable. The league director or his assistant is not responsible for calling the game when there has been a drizzle or some rain either the night before or the day of the game. All games will be decided on the field under these conditions. Teams and umpires must show up. This simply means that all teams, all players and the umpires assigned to the game, are to report to the field no matter the weather conditions.”

It did rain on Sunday, OCTOBER 29 and some games were canceled, some games were forfeited and some games were played to the 5th inning. Forfeited games will count; games that got played to the 5th inning and beyond will continue from the point of interruption. Now all playoff hopes will be put aside and all divisions will go to a 6 team playoff venue except of the first 2

1 divisions (National & Eastern) which can complete there playoff run in 3 weeks.

Therefore, all teams seeded lower than 6th place in the last 3 divisions (Western, Northern & Southern) are eliminated from the playoffs. We are so sorry for this but it was due to circumstances beyond our control.

This is considered to be unforeseen circumstances and the league has a right to make emergency changes so that the playoffs are completed in a reasonable time, again by Sunday November 19.

1st IMPORTANT NOTES:

 Home team is listed first on the schedule below.

 The Home team cannot be home in all 3 games. The Home team has the privilege to elect home in the 1st and 3rd if game, or home in the 2nd and 3rd if game.

2  Teams are asked to be at the scheduled field tome at least ½ to ¾ hour prior to the game start so that if possible the games can be started earlier. All players should be there.

 The 8:00 am game will go off in time if a team has 8 players the game will start. Please DO NOT WAIT IN YOUR CARS.

 ALL PLAYERS AT THE 8:00 am games should be seated in their dugout or warming up on the field prior to 8:00 am.

Special Notes for MANAGERS AND PLAYERS to read: 1. In order for pitchers to qualify for the playoffs the following rule will be in effect. A Pitcher must pitch a total of 21 innings during the regular FALL season. If a pitcher pitches in the playoffs and has not pitched the 21 innings required, that pitcher will be considered illegal, ineligible and not qualified to pitch in the playoffs. A protest of this rule can occur at any time during and after the game.

HOME TEAM IS determined by a flip of a coin!!! The First Game Clock will Begin At 8:00 am or 7:45 am. Gentlemen Be on Time !!! If a team Shows up late at any 8:00 am start or 7:45 am start that teams future games at 8:00am or 7:45 will be removed from the schedule. 2nd IMPORTANT NOTES: The following teams advance to the next round by reason of forfeit by the competing team. 3rd NOTES: 1. The INTERNATIONAL RULE will be in effect in any game tied after 7 complete innings. In the top of the 8th inning and the bottom of the 8th inning, and each inning after, the last batted out is placed on second base. No courtesy runners will be permitted for the last batted out. No exceptions. The INTERNATIONAL RULE will be in effect for the first and second rounds only. In all final rounds there will be “NO INTERNATIONAL RULE”. In the final round there will be no time limit.

2. In the first and second Rounds a time limit of 1 hour and 15 minutes will be applied if teams do not hustle in and out at the end of each inning. Remember only one (1) warm up pitch in between innings and only one time out for any batter in the batter’s box. This time limit is only for the first and second rounds. In all final rounds there will be no time limit.

3. No inning will be allowed to begin if the umpire shows 4 minutes or less to the 1 hour and 15 minute time limit. Umpires must and will announce to both team managers and players listening the 1 hour mark and again at the 1 hour and ten minute (1:10) mark. The umpires will announce at 1:13 mark that this is the final inning provided there is a winner.

4. A team cannot show up late. If a team is given an 8:00 am start and comes late then their next game should be at 11:30 am since they showed up late. Please do not let this happen. All players are to show up on time and when a team has 8 players the game will start. Teams are asked to come ½ hour before their scheduled staring time. Be

6 there on time. And PLEASE DO NOT SIT IN YOUR CARS FOR THE 8:00 am STARTS.

5. Team listed first in the playoff schedule is the home team for the best 2 out of 3. This means that the home team can be home in the 1st game and 3rd if game OR the home team can be home in the 2nd game and 3rd if game. The home team cannot be the home team in all 3 games. The visiting team must be home once in the first 2 games.

6. The MERCEY RULE IS IN EFFECT.

JFK League reserves the right to make changes to the playoff picture as the season develops and fields become available or are not available

Please make sure you are aware of RULE NUMBER 39 as it relates to the playoffs. All team managers and players should be aware of the playoff picture and on what days the playoffs will take place. Ignorance and being selfish is no excuse and will not be tolerated or entertained.

The above IMPORTANT NOTES regarding the playoffs will be repeated on every schedule for the entire season and as well as the playoffs so that there are no controversies or questions regarding the format of the playoffs. Again ignorance is no excuse!!

The Playoff picture by division:

The commissioner has the right to change the playoff format at any time based on 7 field availability, weather conditions, field conditions and any other unforeseen events or circumstance which is out of the direct control of the Just for Kicks Men’s/Coed Softball league. If you the reader cannot understand what message the commissioner is trying to convey, please contact the commissioner at any time for full clarification and explanation as to what this statement means.
