Possible Idea: Puzzle builder talking with kid about not making the school sports team. He encourages the kid to try again at a later date. Do it over again. Afterwards the puzzle hits the floor and they both say Do Over! To be modified and improved. This is just a basic idea.

Offering and Announcements:

Opening Prayer:

Lord, please teach us what a do over means from a spiritual stand point. Help us so we can apply this message to our lives in Jesus name Amen. Message:

A do over can be defined as being given another chance at something.

To help illustrate my point I will list 4 examples of what contains the Do over process.

1. It could be you are in a Basketball game. Time is running out while you shoot the ball for the final play that could win the game. You missed the rim and get fouled in the process. The foul enables you to shoot 2 shots. One for the Tie and the second one for the Win!

2. Another example of a do over could result after two people disagree in an argument over something. The two in this case apologizes and tries again.

3. How many of you have used an Etch-a-Sketch? For those who don’t know what this is it is a rectangular thin box with a knob on each side. You rotate the knobs to draw on the screen. Some people can draw masterpieces. But what happens when you are done or if you tilt the screen? You lose all of you work. It erases it. You then have to start all over.

4. All the suffering Bear, Cub and Sox fans that have to wait until next year every year.

Being sinners we have been separated from our creator. God the creator is Holy and perfect. One way to get closer to him is to confess your sins to him on a regular basis apologizing for your transgressions. Asking God for help in your particular area of sin. Define Confession:

Main Entry: con·fes·sion

1 : an act of confessing; especially : a disclosure of one's sins in the sacrament of reconciliation 2 : a statement of what is confessed : as a : a written acknowledgment of guilt by a party accused of an offense b : a formal statement of religious beliefs : CREED 3 : an organized religious body having a common creed

Scripture examples of acknowledging sin

Psalms 40:11-12

I said, Lord, be merciful unto me: heal my soul; for I have sinned against thee.

Psalms 41:4

Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin. For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin [is] ever before me. Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done [this] evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, [and] be clear when thou judgest. Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.

Psalms 51:2-5

O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.

Matthew 6:12-15

Confess [your] faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

James 5:16

If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

1 John 1:8-10

Questions: How are you doing with confessing and acknowledging sin in your life?

Do you have some things in your life you wish you could do over?

Here are things that I wish I could do over:

 I wish I could have become saved earlier in life so I could have served the Lord sooner.  I wish that I could have showed more compassion by taking action for the homeless.  Visit my family a lot more.  Avoided certain relationships.  Taken more risk for God.  Treated the 3 dogs better that I use to have growing up. I was too busy...  I wish I was allowed to go out for football at an earlier age. My Mom was afraid of me getting injured. I made the team as a junior but had very little playing time due to my experience.

Maybe you have regret. What are some of the things that you wish you could change?

Question:

Ask the congregation: Is there anyone who would be willing to raise their hand and say what they wish they could do over?

Friends is there a second chance for those who died and did not accept Jesus Christ as there saviour? The Bible says no. This is where you don’t have a do over.

Hebrews 9:27: "It is appointed for men to die once, and after this comes judgment." There is no hope whatever for a "second chance" for those who reject Christ during their lifetime on earth.

Action Steps:  Accept Jesus Christ as your Savior if not already done.

 Confess your sins.

 Confession of Christ: Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

Matthew 10:32-33

Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:

Luke 12:8

 Make decisions after seeking direction from God

 Never quit trying to do well

The Lord is the God of second chances. In fact his Grace covers do over’s for a life time. If you want a clean slate have you ask the Lord of the do over to come into your life to be the Lord of your life and the forgiver of your sins? Why not do this right now!

To receive Christ you need to do four things:

1. Admit your spiritual need. “I am a Sinner”. 2. Repent and be willing to turn from your sin. 3. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the Cross. 4. Receive through prayer, Jesus Christ into your heart and life.

Christ says, “Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in Revelation 3:20.

God’s word the Bible says, “Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved” Romans 10:13

Friend, I am going to lead you in a prayer for salvation so everyone please bow your heads. Nobody move this is too important to have distractions of people moving about.

Salvation Prayer: Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and need your forgiveness. I believe that you died for my sins. I want to turn from my sins. I now invite you to come into my heart and life. I want to trust and follow you as Lord and Savior. In Jesus name Amen.

Confirming the decision to receive Christ

You are saved You are a Child of God You have everlasting life

If you prayed to have Jesus Christ be Lord of your life and the forgiver of your sins please come down after the service so we can give you material to help you on you Christian journey.

Conclusion:

Friends God gave us the Ultimate Do Over! Please give someone else a “Do Over” that you refuse to forgive. If there is something you failed doing prior but it is worth trying again, go for it.

What will be your DO OVER?

Let’s stand for closing prayer.

Lord, you are the God of the do over. Thank you for the gifts of grace, mercy, love and eternal life. Please help us to have a second chance to make things right in our life. Help those who don’t know you as savior to come into a relationship with you. Forgive us lord. Thank you for the do over in Jesus name Amen.
