General Session Speaker Pastor Phil Johnson Phil is the executive Director of Grace to You, a Christian tape and radio ministry featuring the preaching ministry of John MacArthur. Phil has been closely associated with John MacArthur since 1981 and edits most of MacArthur's major books. But he may be best known for several popular web sites he maintains, including The Spurgeon Archive and The Hall of Church History. Phil was one of the keynote speakers at the 2008 Shepherd's Conference and has spoken at numerous conferences around America and the world.

Phil is an ordained elder at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, CA, where he co-pastors one of the adult fellowship groups called GraceLife. He is a board member of The Martyn Lloyd-Jones Recordings Trust in England, and a member of the Fellowship of Independent Reformed Evangelicals (FIRE). Phil graduated from Moody Bible Institute with a degree in theology and was an editor for Moody Press and served as was an assistant pastor in St. Petersburg, Florida, before moving to Southern California to take his current position in 1983. Phil and his wife, Darlene, have three adult sons, Jeremiah, Jedidiah, and Jonathan.

Pastor Phil Layton Phil grew up as a missionary kid in the Philippines, where his parents still serve as career missionaries with Association of Baptists for World Evangelism, focusing on creation science evangelism and training Asians to reach peoples not reached by traditional missions. Phil is a graduate of The Master's College and The Master's Seminary. Before accepting the call of pastor at Gold Country Baptist Church in the fall of 2006, Phil served for 10 years as a lay-leader and shepherd at Grace Community Church under the preaching ministry of John MacArthur, and under the elder oversight of Phil Johnson (our keynote speaker this year). Pastor Phil Layton is committed to expository preaching, the sufficiency of Scripture for ministry and all of life, the doctrines of grace, spreading a passion for a high view of God and His Word, and pursuing a ministry that is Scripture-saturated, Christ- centered, God-glorifying, and Spirit-sensitive. The Lord has blessed Phil with his wife Jaime (married in 1997) and three daughters; Ella, Annalee, and Georgia, and a fourth child on the way. John Rucker John serves as an elder and chairman of the executive board at Gold country Baptist Church. John teaches adult Sunday school classes and occasionally preaches on Sunday evenings. John and his wife Janice of 30 years met at Cal Poly at San Luis Obispo. They own a commercial millwork business and have 2 daughters and a grandson.

Glen Cain Glen has a BM in Music Education from Biola University and a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Sacramento State University . Glen has been a middle school teacher for 32 years and has been involved in church ministry with children and youth since 1975. He is currently the Performing Arts Teacher at Gold Trail School in Placerville CA and is on staff at Gold< /st1:PlaceName> Country Baptist Church in Shingle Springs , CA as Director of Junior High Ministries. Glen has been married to his loving wife Linda for 29 years (also a Biola graduate, B.S. in Christian Education) Glen & Linda have three adult children, Benjamin (27) is a Biola graduate and currently a band teacher at Marina Village Middle School , El Dorado Hills CA . God has blessed Ben and his wife Ashley with Ethan (2). Matthew (25) is a Christian Education Biola graduate and is now attending Western Seminary in Portland Oregon where his wife Krista works in the Administration Office. They are currently missionaries with Community Vision International. Our daughter, Sarah (22) graduated May 26, 2008 from Simpson University in Redding , CA as a Mass Communications Major.

Alan Carlton Alan and his family have attended Gold Country Baptist Church for the past three years. He is a native of Shingle Springs and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Cal State University, Fresno. He remains the president of a local engineering firm that he founded 25 years ago. Alan has been married to Diane for 21 years and they have been blessed with three children, Terrell, Tyler and Leslie.

Bob Johnston Bob occasionally teaches adult Sunday school classes and children’s church at Gold Country Baptist Church. He earned a BA in Bible from Los Angeles Baptist College (now The Master’s College) and a MDiv degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, Illinois. Since then, he has had the privilege of providing pulpit supply at a number of churches, as well as pastoring a small but dear church in the foothills. Bob and his wife Lorna have been married for 26 years and have been blessed with four children: Seth, Hilary, Dillon, and Molly. Currently, Bob teaches IT classes at Heald College and manages the computer refurbishing program at the Sacramento Sheriff’s Toy Project, both located in Rancho Cordova, CA.

Mark Freeman Mark is a part-time staff member at Gold Country Baptist Church working as the Varsity & High School Youth Director. He has been married to Christine for 24 years and they have 4 children with ages ranging from 13 to 23 years old. In addition to working part-time at Gold Country, Mark works full-time as a detective for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department.

Pastor Jerry Shore Jerry has been the music and worship leader at Gold Country Baptist Church since 1997 and an associate pastor since 2000. He is currently the chaplain and junior high math teacher for Providence Christian School. Jerry’s wife of 20 years, Anna, is the church’s orchestra and the choir’s accompanist, as well as the mother of the 2 cutest kids the modern world has ever seen, Carolyn and Jeffrey.

Chaplain Tim Thompson Tim Thompson is one of the best qualified chaplains in the state. His civilian education includes a BA from BIOLA University, Master of Divinity in theology (Trinity Seminary) , Master of Arts Pastoral Counseling (Talbot Seminary), Master of Theology (Western Baptist Seminary). Prior to his Chaplaincy Tim had accumulated 13 years of pastoral service, 34 years of military service in the Army where he rose from the rank of private to Lieutenant Colonel. Tim and his wife Barbara have been married for 34 years and have raised 14 foster children

Dean Orr Dean was born and raised in Colorado. He attended Biola University to prepare for a career in teaching. While there he met his wife, Bonnie, and they were married in 1964. In 1966, they moved to El Dorado County where Dean secured a teaching position with Buckeye Union School District and taught for 35 years. He retired in May of 2001. Dean and Bonnie have four married children and ten grandchildren. They are recent members of Gold Country Baptist Church.

Nick Triveri Nick has been the Senior Pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Placerville for 15 years. He has been married to his wife Beck for 35 years and they have two grown daughters. Nick is a lover of God’s Word and teaches it passionately.
