The Format
Your paper must be broken into sections with titles based on the major themes (Origins and causes…, Different types and nature…, etc.), with subtitles based on the topics (Long-term causes, short-term causes, etc.) to organize your paper.
The paper must be written in your own words in paragraph form. Anything that is a specific fact, opinion, paraphrase or quote must be properly cited (see below). You must have citations throughout the paper. A paper with no citations (or very few) will not receive credit.
Your paper must be double spaced with Times New Roman 12 point font.
Cite information using the MLA format of parenthetical citations. For more information on MLA refer to the Purdue Online Writing Lab website. This consists of the author’s last name and the page number where you found the information. For example: Blah, blah, blah, blah (Zinn 25).
Your last page is a Works Cited page using MLA format. Remember, this only includes the sources you actually cited in your paper. It must be in alphabetical order according to last names.
You must use at least 5 sources in your paper (all in Works Cited). You may not use Wikipedia (or any form of an encyclopedia), textbooks, or Internet sites that are not scholarly online books or journal articles. All sources must have an author. Find specific sources on your topic.
Include a title page with your first and last names, the date, period (you can add this the first day of school) and the name of your assigned war. Staple this instruction sheet to the back of your research paper. DO NOT put your report in a folder of any kind.
Failure to follow instructions will result in the loss of points. This includes e-mailing me over the summer because you forgot your topic. This assignment is worth 25 points.
