Consultation on the reduction of Pupil Admission Numbers (PAN)

Frome Vale Academy

October 2015

Frome Vale Academy and the Cabot Learning Federation would like to propose reducing the Pupil Admission Numbers (PAN) with effect from 1 September 2017.

Although the Regulations and Code of Practice relating to school admissions no longer require an admissions authority to consult when maintaining or increasing a school’s PAN, there remains a requirement to consult when the proposal is to reduce a PAN. The Cabot Learning Federation (CLF), as the admissions authority is seeking comments on the proposed change.

PROPOSAL

The Cabot Learning Federation (CLF) proposes to reduce the published admission number of the school from 315 to 210 with effect from 1 September 2017.

This means that the number of places available for children in Reception in 2017 and all subsequent Reception cohorts will be 30. For children who already have a place at the school in all other year groups (Years 1 to Year 6), there will be no change.

We do not propose to make any other changes to our admissions policy.

Factors that have been considered by Cabot Learning Federation in deciding to consult on this proposal are;

 The school has not had a total roll past 205 pupils in the last four years.

 Reducing the PAN number would allow more stringent financial controls allowing staffing levels to be appropriate to the number of pupils we have.

 The school is committed to reviewing the PAN if the local context dictates a need for this in the future.

HOW TO RESPOND

This consultation will run from 12 October 2015 to 27 November 2015 and you are invited to submit comments in writing about the proposal above to the Chair of the Academy Council at Frome Vale Academy, Brigid Allen using email address [email protected]

Following the consultation period the CLF and Frome Vale Academy Council will consider any comments received and how to proceed. Admission arrangements for 2017 will be determined by 31 March 2016 and any subsequent objections will need to be made to the Office of the Schools Adjudicator by 30 June 2016.
