Course Description This course is designed to develop and strengthen your critical thinking, analytical, and creative skills through reading, writing, and discussion. The literary works we study will focus on the discovery of characters as individuals and as members of society. We will analyze, examine, compare, and critique works of literature, while making connections to our own lives. Through the revision process, students will continually reflect on their writing to enhance their growth as learners.

Guidelines Students are expected to: Respect faculty, staff, themselves, and classmates Come to class on time and prepared

Grading Policy Quarterly grades are based upon: Writing: 40% Tests: 30% Journals/Blogs/Homework/ Quizzes: 30%

Attendance and Tardiness Attendance and punctuality are crucial to participation and success in this course. Unexcused absences and lateness will be treated according to the North Salem High School cut policy. Behavior Students will behave in an appropriate manner that is conducive to learning for all individuals. All students will contribute to a positive and respectful classroom environment.

Class Work/Readings/Assignments Students are expected to participate in class discussion and complete all assignments on the day they’re due. Everyone is required to complete assigned readings in order to be prepared for class discussion and in-class activities.

Examination/Homework Policy -Missed tests/essays following a legal absence must be rescheduled immediately -Homework is due on the assigned date
