The meeting was called to order at 7:20a.m. Mrs. Nichols welcomed all in attendance. Mrs. Nichols ensured everyone had minutes from the last meeting held on May 20, 2016. Minutes from the last meeting were reviewed and approved, and then the floor was open to Mrs. Veliz for the Principal’s Report.

Principals Report  ELA update – Mrs. Velize reported the English Language Arts FSA scores were released and there were gains in the lowest quartile. MLE superseded the districts goals.  Mrs. Veliz encouraged everyone to get the Broward APP. Although daily grades will not be posted, grades by quarter will be available for elementary and many announcements from the schools will be sent via the app.  New computers will arrive on September 26  We will vote for the $100,000 Smart Bond initiative. Must be voted by the entire schools and community. Money won’t be received until January 2017.  All were encourage to join PTO – every membership helps. PTO meeting will be held every other month. Community events to build family relationships. –  \There are many activities taking place this year. Some sponsored by PTO others from ASP – all proceeds will come back to the school. An “Activity Calendar” is in the front of the school. Some of the events taking place this year are… a. Chick-fil-a night. b. Upcoming Aloha dance September 28; c. The week of September26 - Pizza Grande & Esposito’s the entire week. d. Slime Rosa e. 3 book fairs this year. The first will be held in October. f. Gigi is working with soldiers overseas – student will write letters to soldiers. g. Picture Day on 9/29 – for ID, Staff, and Yearbook photo students must wear uniforms. Spring pictures h. October 13 Hispanic Celebration

* Activities calendars will be sent home and every week there will be a “Week in Review via Phone-A-Friend.

 ASP is also a great help to for many activities this year. Morning camp for students that need to be dropped off early

Safety  This year we are going to have a MOCK Code Black.  Extra support is at the back gate to move drop off faster and to remind parent no cell phone use during drop off. Parents have been courteous and complied with request and are onboard because they understand the reasons behind it.

Title I Update  Title one orientation on September 22, 2016 at Author Ashe, Jr – Atlantic Technical College. 7:30pm – 8:30

SAC Bi-Laws  SAC meeting are mandated by the State and very important for each school. The committee should be made of diverse members from the community depending on the demographic needs of the school such as a) the principal, a permanent member of this Council b) Teachers, Education Support employees c) Parents/Guardians ESE & ESOL parents d) Business and Community members  The committee should be about a 50/50 split between school staff and parent/ community volunteers.  All officer will serve for a 2-year term  This year the committee will have a chairperson and a co-chair person to usher in the new Chairperson without leaving gaps. There was a motion to vote Ms. Hafez as the new Chairperson; the motion was second, and all in agreement said, “I”.  There is still a position open for Secretary that will be voted on at the next meeting. Mrs. Wright has agreed to take noted for today’s meeting.

SIP (School Improvement Plan) Update  Everyone was reminded that the SIP plan is a living document. The SIP from last year was closed out and the process of starting a new plan will begin on October 17, 2016. At the next meeting the committee will address the SIP and the PIP (Parent Improvement Plan)

Camps  Camps start next week for 4th and 5th grade writing.  Afternoon camps will start soon.  Special Area Teachers are doing push in at allocated times based on data. Questions/Concerns A parent asked “Is there something a parent can do to help their student? Mrs. Hafez shared that as a parent of a student at Mirror Lake she enourages i-ready. I-ready adjusts the instruction for each student. It also mirrors skills on FSA. Title I is paying for i- ready. It was also recommended that we do a joint PTO/SAC meeting in November.

The SAC meeting was adjourned at 7:45am. Next meeting is October 21, 2016 at 7:15 am.
