Attendance: It is extremely important that you attend every class session in order to be successful in this math class. Class will begin promptly at 12:30 pm and will end at 2:35 pm. An attendance roster will be distributed in every class meeting. You are responsible for indicating your presence with your signature. If you fail to sign the attendance roster, you are considered absent for the day. Leaving early or arriving late is disrespectful and disruptive, and it will count as an absence. Any student with three consecutive absences or a total of four absences may be dropped from the course. In addition, any student who wants to drop this course will have to fill out the proper forms in the appropriate office or drop via WebAdvisor. Don’t assume that you will automatically be dropped. If you miss any lecture, you will be responsible for the material or any announcement(s) presented on that day. I strongly encourage you to exchange phone numbers with at least 2 classmates so that you can obtain any information you missed due to an absence.

Instructor reserves the right to modify this syllabus. Any changes will be announced during a class session. Those students that are absent are responsible for any announced changes to the syllabus. Continued enrollment implies you understand what is required of you.

2 Classroom Policies: 1. All electronic devices should be switched off at all times while the class is in progress. This includes your cell phone, iPod, etc. 2. Persons not enrolled in the course are not allowed to be in the class while the class is in progress. 3. Absolutely no eating, drinking, or smoking in class. 4. Students are expected to exhibit proper conduct. 5. I reserve the right to ask you to leave should your behavior become disruptive. For more information refer to The Standards of Student Conduct as listed in the Student Handbook.

Academic Honesty: Plagiarism is presenting someone else's work as your own. Plagiarism/cheating will result in your forfeiting credit for the assignment that includes plagiarism and may result in your receiving an F for the course. I expect every student to do their own work. Any student turning in copied work (exams, quizzes, etc.), taking credit for another’s work or ideas, or copying from the internet will receive no points for that assignment. This offense is very serious and may result in expulsion. All assignments, quizzes, and exams will be completed without the aid of the textbook, notes, or calculator. Using these materials will result in a zero. Calculators and cell phones are not allowed to be used during the class. Not following these rules will result in a zero on the exam, quiz, or assignment.

Outside of Class Coursework: Be ready to spend approximately 8 hours a week working on assignments. If you are having difficulty and require tutoring, you may sign up for ILA 800 and receive free tutoring in the Math Learning Center in MLK 305/308.

Students will be evaluated on the following:

MyMathLab Assignments: MyMathLab is an interactive online program directly linked to your textbook. You will be using MyMathLab to supplement your instruction and to complete computer assignments. The instructions for how to do your homework online will be explained on the first day. These instructions are also listed under Course Requirements. Homework is usually due the following Monday’s midnight, exception –HW Exam Preparation – due the day of the corresponding Exam. The due dates for homework are listed on the Course Schedule. No late work is accepted and due dates will not be extended.

Exams: Four written tests will be given . There are no make-ups for any exam. The percentage you earn on your Final Exam can replace the percentage score of your lowest Exam . The testing schedule is included under the Course Schedule.

Take – Home – Exams: There will be four written Take – Home – Exams, which contain several problems similar to the ones in the In – Class – Exams. You may get tutor’s help on a Take – Home – Exam, also compare and discuss your answers with co-students. Due days for Take – Home – Exams are days when the In – Class – Exams are scheduled. You must give me Take – Home – Exam on a day of In – Class – Exams , before it starts. Every time the score of the Take – Home – Exam would be added to the score of the In – Class – Exam.
